Well, you should bring a hybrid! j/k, I'm hardly going to use the IMA. But I'll try to have my battery depleted before I start the descent.

Btw, I punched the route into Google Maps to give me an idea of where we're headed. I may have missed a turn or two, but this gives you a rough idea.

oops, I have been corrected. I guess what I built was a kammback, not a boattail. I am still a noob to all of this.
And this was my reply to him.....

Whew, I was scared. Now the rest of us still have a chance for highest mpg of the day.

Just wanted to add that I really appreciate all of the effort and the long distances people are travelling to make our event.

Chang's coming in from eastern Mass and getting up at 4:00 am can't be considered "fun". Martin is travelling in from Quebec City, QC. That's about a 7 hour ride each way! He will be leaving tomorrow morning at 7:00 am, and the event isn't until the following day! That's dedication.

Bruce Turk is also coming up tomorrow and staying in Johnstown. His '58 Saab 93B will be our first ever 2-stroke powered economy run entrant!

Me, I'll be peeling masking tape and newspaper off tomorrow and putting my car back together.

Might even have time to switch to synthetic oils and "blow" the tires up as our friend Bill Clark says.

Hi,

I stopped by Chang's shop and got a look at his CRX HF -- it sticks back about 30 inches or maybe a bit more, and it extends the plane of the rear window and the sides curve inward. To be a boattail, it would have to be about twice as big. He has also made the wheel covers smooth and added a trailing fairing for the driver's side mirror. The passenger's mirror is removed.

I may be able to drive out in the morning -- maybe Chang and I can draft each other on the way out? I think this is the only way it can work for me, as my daughter will want to go Trick or Treating Saturday evening...

Has anyone booked a room, or are we going to agree in advance on a Wal-Mart parking lot to park and sleep in?

I hope the travelling went well for all who drove out today. It's 11:00pm now [still have to set the clocks back in an hour] and I am finishing putting my car back together. In addition to everything else, I changed all four springs for a 2" drop. Now I have to align it. Still have to block the grill and tape up the holes in the wheels.

Weather report for tomorrow has improved. No mention of rain now. I hope they are right.

See you all in about 8 hours,

Mike

Hi,

I will not be there Sunday, unfortunately. I was hoping, but things did not work out.

Economy Run IV Recap....

Yes indeed,

It was a great day today for A.M.E.C.'s 4th Economy Run event in two years. No rain in sight and temps in the 50's. For upstate NY in November, these are very good conditions. There was a light wind that both helped and hurt depending on which direction we were travelling [and we travelled in all directions].

I'd like to thank all who came out and participated. It was most enjoyable, and as always, great to see everyone again.

Last minute preparations prior to the start of the competition. That's Steve McKelvie's supercharged, automatic Mercedes Benz SLK on the left.

Robert's 2000 Insight has only been on the road for three days. He picked it up as a salvage recovery car and waited a long time to get a title from New York State DMV.

Under the hood of Robert's Insight.

Martin is seen here readying his record setting diesel Jetta TDI. Will Meredith's Honda Civic was sporting some additional areo treatments on the nose today.

Chang Ho Kim's now infamous Civic HF was driven all the from eastern Massachusettes sporting his full plexiglass aero package. Cool!

Chang's newly fabricated Kammback for this event.

It's always great to see new people at each event, and it was really cool to see an entire family on board, including two black Labs! This is Mr. and Mrs. Dan Wren in their 1986 BMW 325ES.

The only Historic Class entry at this event, Bruce Turk's rare 1958 Saab 93B.

This was our very first 2-stroke powered vehicle in competition. Check out that areodynamic silhouette! Nice.

Richard Vedder's 2000 Escort ZX2 S/R, next to my 1993 Sentra SE-R. We both use these cars for ice racing and other speed type events. Both are 2 liter 5 speed cars with 140 h.p.

From 2 cycle classics, to race cars, and modern hybrids, they are all fun to hypermile with.

At the halfway checkpoint, our friend Jonathan Bartlett [Lug_Nut] and his 1995 VW Cabrio with TDI swap. Thanks for volunterring your time Jonathan!

Just got called for dinner, I'll continue with more later. And yes, I'll have results up too.
