System 48 Oil Treatment

Since there has been zero talk about this product on this site, I figured I would see what people think of it. The makers claim a MPG increase, lower friction, and less wear for metal to metal surfaces in an engine. Other uses include manual trans, differentrials, and pretty much anything that has a lube to reduce friction *no auto trans*.

They claim lab test results of over 10% gain on low MPG, but old cars.


For my own personal review, I did see a gain after I put it in my engine, but I also did wheel covers at the same time, and I can't really do ABA testing with a product like this anyway. I have used it in the past, but I wasn't looking for MPG gains, only to extend engine life and reduce oil burnning.

My dad has a few storys of this stuff that is interesting. First one the car owner used a quart of oil to go to town, then another on the way home, so it was in really sad shape. He treated the engine (mind you this is before "system 48 plus" when it was just system 48) and the car owner met back up with my dad after his first oil change. He didn't add any oil to the car, and at the time to change the oil, it was 1 quart low. So from 1 quart per say 20 miles to 3000 miles is a pretty good improvement. This was from back in the 90s, and most likely the car was large and had a V8.

My dad has also put it in cars that burned or leaked oil badly, and had no change, so this isn't a fix it all product.


The reasion I posted it here, is to see if anyone else has experence with this, since there isn't any "proof" on this site, and anyone can spoof lab results. The creator claims the product "sticks" to the high friction areas of the engine and reduces wear.

I also want to point out I have nothing to do with the company that makes the product, I'm just seeing what others think, and maybe some other's tests.

I smell scam when a product is marketed to improved MPG.

I think you get more MPG improvement just by airing your tires close to sidewall maximum pressure.

And that is why I posted it in the unicorn corral. I doubt the MGP claims, but it does seem to do *something* to stop some types of oil leaks and burning oil. The claim on longer engine life is hard to get proof for.

It makes me sad that no one else has any experience on this. Understandably, people are hesitant, but I would like more posts from people who have used it.

I agree with OP, no arguing about if it improves mileage, but does it improve SOMETHING?

I'm the OP .

Have around 12k miles with system 48 in my engine and a total of 241500 miles. According to my research, around this age is when they just start burning oil (1-2qt per 3k miles), and when they do, within 30-40k miles later they have major problems (don't remember what exactly). It uses around 1/2 a quart per 3k miles, and I run synthetic, so an oil change every 10k miles. I'm sure some people will go crazy about my oil change habits. On sites where people post their high mileage for their cars shows the corolla never really makes it past 300k with out an engine change/rebuild. On the other hand, the Camrys go up to ~400-450k.


I have a friend that wants to buy a can for his car. (I buy it by the case, then resell for a fair price vs other resales). His engine is low miles (like 60k), but was ran out of oil and is knocking a bit in the top end. I know it isn't magic juice, but it could help prolong the life of the engine if it helps in areas of metal to metal contact. I can't remember if it uses oil or not though.

...sounds like Andy Granatelli's STP (Scientificially Treated Petroleum), which DOES have benefits -- just about every engine rebuilt uses it to reduce initial engine wear -- but, almost no further benefits above & beyond normal (synthetic) engine oil of the proper viscosity.

I will also add I did a switch to mobile 1 synthetic and only seen about a 1 mpg improvement. I doubt this will add anything over mobile 1.

saying you have 'nothing to do with the company that makes it' is incorrect. when you sell a can, they make another can.....

I always buy stuff in bulk when it is cheap. If someone wants a can instead of having them buy a $20 can, I sell them at my cost $8. Little to no profit for me. I have sold 0 cans as of so far, but am willing if someone is interested. My dad's last case lasted him for something like 15 years.

When I say I have nothing to do with the company is purely meaning I'm not working for them. I only promote from experience.

Really, your rational behind buying a case and selling it cheap have no bearing on the FACTS:
You bought (invested) in a case of something that people don't even buy 1 can of. ....unless it gets 'pushed'.
