Philosphy?

It seems that philosophy of time value vs family equation alittle flawed. For one most people do love there family and kids there not spending all of there waking hours with them even if they werent modding there car. To see someone spending some time beside at the tube watching tv in attempts to even save a few more bucks to AFFORD more money to do things with there family could be a variable but valuable part of that money to time value chart that people were arguing about.

How about losing your OWN weight! A lot of us could stand to lose 10-50+ pounds which definitely would improve our MPG. Seriously, that is an important factor in our search for optimal mileage.

Here are a few suggestions to put into the modification list
- Idle reduction,
- automatic transmission gear manual control (Manumatic), there are a few threads about this mod not sure if anyone has numbers on efficiency improvement
- Torque converter lock up control, again not sure if anyone has numbers on efficiency improvements
- cold idle speed reduction, I have recently done this mod, thread link below.

For the site admins, let us know if we need more data to get these onto the list or if there is anything else stoping these mods going on the list.

Great list ! I recently bought a 98 Escort Wagon automatic - cost less than 2000$ and is a bargain to insure. Uses half the fuel of my 4 X 4 - that I keep for outdoor & camping expeditions. I'm looking foreward to reducing my fuel consumption by applying the list to my driving & to my vehicle.

Good luck with the new-to-you car. I owned a '97 Escort automatic wagon for seven years. Definitely a reliable and fuel efficient car, although I have to say my Civic thus far is better in virtually every way, generally much better. By driving 60 mph on the freeway I was able to get mileage in the mid to high 30's on mostly freeway trips, best was 37 mpg. And that was with hardly any modifications. I ran a lower grill block in the winter and it helped with engine temps, but be sure not to run it in anything close to warm temperatures, the engine and especially trans temps get pretty high. The one thing I do miss about that car was the utility of a wagon, the cargo space was amazing. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, I might have an answer or two. Hope you like changing tie rod ends.
