Why not set the timing far enough ahead to get max torque at 0 RPM? It would be just like an electric motor, and not use any gas at all.

The comp advances the timing to ~26° with 14° timing and only 15° with 10°....anybody know why? Shouldn't it be linear? Maybe leave the spout connector plugged in and see what it does when I change it?
That doesn't make sense it should be 4 degree more across the rpm as ECU does not know your at 14 vs 10 unless you have crank, cam sensors . How are you adjusting timing ?
If it cranks slower, longer to startup your advanced more than needed . Also if you just crank initial timing your raising timing across all rpm which might not be optimum .
That might be why it feels week at top end .

Sorry. I just don't believe max torque at 800 RPM for an automotive-sized gasoline engine.

Navistar and Cummins engines make about 75% of max torque at 1,000 RPM and peak torque about 2,000 RPM.

y not convert it over to a gun engine and make max torque linear across the rpm band

This seems a wimpy engine in terms of torque.

What are the cylinder X stroke dimensions? With all that torque so low, it would need to be a very long stroke and very undersquare, as far as my limited knowledge goes? What is the redline of the engine?

Seems to be in here

Ford 300 Inline 6 Cylinder Specs, Ford 300 Engine Information, Firing Order : Engine Facts.com

I assume this is the banana (although they are all the same dimensions)

Quote:
1987 - 1993 with Fuel Injection
Max Brake Horsepower - 145 @ 3400 rpm
Max Torque - 265 @ 2000 rpm
Stroke - 3.98
Bore - 4.0
Compression - 8.8
Firing Order - 153624
which suggests it is oversquare.
