Yes. That is bad. It would take a real good deal for me to buy that car. You got the area right. If you buy this you will NEED to get that reinforced before it breaks apart.

Well, I've see them with over 200k and all they had was a head job. The engine in the metro I run was rebuilt in the frame (rings&bearings) at 155k and now it has 285k on it. I hope that helps.... Look at Johnny Mullets build thread on rust repair and yes that's where they rust..

Those are the areas you need to check as the pics show. I also have pics in my Christine Build Thread, but not sure what page it's on.

If it's just some rust and no gaping holes, you should be able to maintain it, but if the area is rotted away, then you may want to find a welder that can help you at a reasonable price or find a better one.

Mine had burnt exhaust valves when I purchased it at 130,000 miles. I only rebuilt the top end and no issues so far.

cool thanks for the feedback guys. I am a welder so it would actually be a cool project for me to do and as a bonus it would be a great bargaining point for lowering the price of the car!
