Spotted this beauty a while ago...
As Chrysler is now part of the same group as Citroën/Peugeot, I wouldn't be surprised if a next-generation Chrysler/Dodge minivan would rely on the same underpinnings of the European models (this one was assembled in Uruguay as a CKD unit anyway). Well, with a manual transmission and a 1.6L turbodiesel engine, it's quite efficient, and truth be told it's not underpowered at all.

At least in urban areas, this beauty seems to have mostly taken over the role of the VW Kombi in Brazil.

Please convince me to stop!!!
I found a 1992 Toyota Previa, 150k miles, manual transmission, paint doesn't look bad at all, a few dings and dents, but nothing major, interior is all in tact and pretty clean, runs, has a tape deck player.
I want it so badly!

It's pre-ODBII, which is disqualifying in my book unless it's something like a 50's or 60's classic, with an exception for maybe the Delorean... as a project car to replace the drivetrain.

Just 5 seats, strange-looking, but it's remarkably comfortable. I remember a former neighbor used to have one, and that was one of the most comfortable cars within its size range.

Only if you couldn't find an engine suitable to replace the stock one which is not so outstanding...

I'm not sure if I personally agree that OBD II is a necessity. Codes can still be read from previous systems. But yes, a simple OBD II reader would not work making it more of a hassle to get codes.
No OBD II would mean no stick shift Previa as 1996 and 1997 Previas did not have the stick shift option, which would put a damper on my desire to get one, which in turn may be a good thing.

The newest vehicle I own is a 2006 Acura TSX, and it's archaic compared to modern tech. MAP sensor vs MAF. It has a small 2.4L 4-cylinder engine and an efficient aerodynamic shape, yet only manages 30 MPG, which is an improvement in the EPA estimate. It uses hydraulic power steering, belt driven AC, mechanical water pump, etc. All of these systems depend on engine speed, which is not efficient. All of these require an accessory belt, which is not efficient.
An old efficient car was only efficient because it was gutless.

I assume this is a typo.
But if not, now I'm interested in what is your oldest vehicle.
Yes, the Avalon is much more efficient than what the Previa could ever be. The newest Toyota Siennas are all hybrid with a combined fuel efficiency of 36mpg compared to 17mpg of the Previa.
