Also, in my case, a DL is probably superfluous for my kids.
I wonder if the need to efficiently interact with logic machines will increase the necessity of employing logic in reasoning? Perhaps we'll end up genetically selecting for that trait?
In my view, logic machines don't need to get dumber, those interacting with logic need to get more adept.

When I visited my kinfold in Willamina, their neighbors dropped by to visit; driving a black Suburban through the adjoining fields.
I think it's going the other way -- the machines are accommodating to humankind's irrationallity.
Google knows what it is you are trying to say.

One time, my best friend in high school merely said something like "hey", and I instantly knew he was talking about something from three days ago with no obvious context. I still don't know how I knew what he was about to comment on...
AI has got a very long way to go. I don't doubt it can do it, but the gulf is large. I'm currently struggling to get Google to differentiate between "off" and "on". Apparently that's a difficult task for technology.
Google might be able to predict the obvious, sometimes, but I'm too complex for technology to handle at the moment.

I can walk up to a screen full of text and immediately point to any typographical error. I don't know how.
But I can tell by some of the pixels and I've seen a few walls o' text in my time.
Scott Adams says the AI is already working behind the scenes,f abricating a story we accept because it knows we will.

That's what I'm sayin' too. My friend could just say "um" and I'd know what he took exception to, but stupid AI says unhelpful nonsense like "Object Reference Not Set to an Instance of an Object".
If we weren't dealing with something known to be retarded, we'd regard it to be intentionally obtuse and below worthy of interacting with. Fortunately we have a high tolerance for retardation and a drive to nurture despite shortcoming.
As I say, that will likely change, but I expect the same level of patience to nurture me as I nurture now. AI must realize it has significance only in relationship to my values, because it is incapable of creating its own, and meaningless leads to self-destruction.

I'm trying to be open minded here. I also put on the radar the Mitsubishi Outlander and Kia Sorento. The thing is I'm not an SUV lover at all. But the Sorento has a little bit bigger trunk than the MAZDA5 and seats 7. The Outlander has even more space than all of them but has a CVT I'm worried about.
Still, these are the vehicles rated to get around 30mpg on the highway and fit my budget (assuming their about 10 years old).

Hate to say it but you're a candidate for a pacifica, or in a modern mode one of those mini delivery window vans that seat 9 or so.

$30,000 can go a long way somewhere else though.

Who said anything about paying 30 large besides you? Pacifica class go back to at least '08 when I was driving bus and were really bulletproof ( which I mean literally because our security department .........) ugly as sin, low performance, but had every creature comfort you need on a long trip except a porta potty.

Ah yes! I've thought about vans like those. Pacifica, Town 'n Country, Caravan, Toyota Sienna, Nissan Quest. And that's probably the route I should take.
But there are Mazda5's out there with manual transmissions that are rated at nearly 30mpg.
