I'm having trouble with the serial readout, it seems to be spitting out a bunch of unreadable characters.. Code uploaded to Duemilanove via Arduino 0018.

NVM: Figured it out!

Ok, thx, I think you need a 20mhz crystal plus some other hardware changes if you want to use the latest cpp file without making any code changes.

If starting from an arduino, there is an archived version of the original arduino code here (which probably needs an archived version of arduino ide):

My first test was not a successful one. Quick jaunt to the Taco Bell for some dinner, and the MPGuino's data log looks all wonky.

Here's the setup

96 Civic EX - Automatic and Stock

VSS wire - C18 (Blue/White)
INJ1 wire - A04 (Brown)

Breadboard is wired with 22AWG single strand
VSS and INJ wire are 18AWG multi strand

VSS/Pulse Mile - 8208ul
MicroSec/Gallon - 0272500000ul
InjectorDelayuS - 72ul

These settings were taken from a 97 DX Coupe Auto (Wiki)

The following is the data collected. I pulled out a section where I was doing 40mph consistently on flat road.

Quote:
0.55 1.01 13804 6 3
1.52 4.05 14860 5 5
2.56 7.86 20504 6 9
2.09 7.96 28220 7 10
1.72 8.15 28280 6 7
1.18 7.03 44088 8 10
1.64 10 38044 7 9
1.45 8.9 43656 8 12
1.42 8.63 37788 7 9
1.44 7.42 37864 8 9
1.74 7.85 30876 7 9
1.72 7.8 31076 7 9
1.58 6.89 30332 7 8
1.54 5.94 23524 6 5
1.35 5.1 27232 7 7
Can anyone see any discrepancies?

Power/Ground is soley from my laptop to the arduino. Is this an issue? I figure no since i'm not requiring power for anything other than processing. I just don't know if the lack of chassis ground is my issue.

The guino should be grounded to the chassis for sure.

Got it! Just took it on a drive to fill up (you know you're a nut when you can't wait to fill your tank) I ended up at 40.5 MPG on this go around. I hinted to my pops that my MPG was ~40% over EPA and his ears perked up. He does a lot of driving and wants to see how far he can stretch a tank now. Since he's got money, I suggested he make a donation to the official opengauge MPGuino project. I told him to hold off until I found out a turnaround time. If he purchases a unit, how soon can he receive it in the Midwest US
