Someone posted a black HX here in Show Low that allegedly runs and drives!
Unfortunately, it is a 1997, but look at these pictures!
I see at least one dent and cloudy headlights, but I can pull dents (at least partially) and I restored the headlights on my Civic, Accord, Camry, and Mom's Camry:
Oh no! A scuff!
I love the HX wheels, though!
Boys! Girls! We found the good side!
Before the mid-generation refresh with larger taillights and a detached spoiler.
Huh. There is a crease right before the taillight.
Creases are harder to fix.
A slightly different angle!
Yes! It has tires! Four of them!
The outside is clean, but what about the engine bay?!
I am unsure that mine is dirtier and I am not trying to sell her!
How much to restore the original intake--without scavenging from Chorizo?
Do I have an anti-sway bar?! I am pretty sure that I don't!
I am pretty sure that I don't have the mounts, either!
Huh. This one should have power steering.
Hopefully the door panels don't crunch like mine, but: - Can I reattach the trunk and gas door levers?
- How much for a speaker cover?
- How much to replace the inside mirror moulding (or is that the side where I accidentally bought 2)?
- That stain will come out of the floormat, right?
The least-used seat in the whole car has a hole!
That's a big rip! Curious how the seam was stronger than the fabric!
No stereo?
No stereo!
How do you wear out the driver's shoulder?
Sadly, she has 255,000 miles, and hilariously, he is asking $1,500. I told my family that I love my Civic, but I wouldn't offer more than $1,500 for this.
The KBB value is $1,575.

It's not so easy to spot a Civic Coupé in my country. But I have seen cars in a worse state of disrepair being saved from going to the scrapyard...

Three thousand dollars sounds excessive for a car not much nicer looking than cars that get scrapped.

The value of old cars isn't in their appearance, but in their function. The value of newer cars assumes their function.

Old car begs to differ.
Every time I drive it it makes someone else happy.

The exception doesn't disprove the rule. I'm happy every time I see a Beetle too. Miss the exhaust note.

You are happy to have an excuse to punch someone?!
Before my sister offered to pay me to sign the car over to the Alaskan, I offered a guy selling a 1989 Tercel with 200,000 miles $500.
He eloquently replied "Nah."
It is a Toyota that runs and drives and the air conditioning and heater work--allegedly, but it is ugly on the outside, filthy on the inside, tiny, and too old to show up in Kelley Blue Book.
It only goes back 30 years.
I thought that I could fill up the tank, put a bag of groceries in the back seat, and offer to sign it over in exchange for the Accord key.
Nah.
Well, Kelley says the HX is worth $1,575. If I offer him what the car is worth to Kelley and to myself, who has dreamed of having various lean-burn vehicles that I fix up, will he reply in kind?

I am adamantly opposed to being used as a call to violence. It's electrical signals in someone else's brain pan for which I take no responsibility. It's all on their black little hearts.

I care about which millionaire hit another millionaire at an event only millionaires attend.
Haha! April Fool's!
I realized years ago that if I don't go to school or work on a given day I rarely get anything done.
My one Thursday client just moved to Wednesday and I didn't work on the shed or do speech therapy with my brother.
I did push-ups and flutterkicks, though, so at least I have that going for me.
It was weird. I was alternating sets, my version of the pyramids we did in Basic, except I hate going 1,1, 2,2, 3,3. I usually try to finish strong, like 5,5, 4,4, 6,6, done!
It felt wrong to stop at 10, but that was the whole point, so I did 10,10, laid on my back and thought "That was the equivalent of 1-4, so I skip to 5? Hey, why is my eyesight pulsing?"
I could see my heartbeat in my eyes?!
Yeah, when I noticed my eyes pulsing I waited it out.
I don't know, maybe if I don't go 10,10, 5,5, 6,6, and then 6,6, 5,5, 10,10 my eyes won't pulse as much.
It's not like my eyes will explode!
When my California sister offered to pay me $500 to give the car to the crazy Alaskan my other sister said she had hoped to buy it off me for her 16-year-old son.
I had wanted to fix it up for him, but he hasn't shown any interest in driving.
I still want to buy myself an accident-free Camry and I would rather buy him an Accord with lower mileage, no leaks, and no dents in the roof, but at least the latter was resolved.
I found the thread where I said body shops claimed they couldn't fix it, but I couldn't find where I posted that I paid Crazy J $240 to fix it.
Anyway, the first time that I rode in my Accord after the Alaskan started driving her I grabbed a handful of garbage and I did that each and every time, as well as asking about new stains and why the rubber floormat is sticky.
I would have cleaned it for my nephew, but a little vacuuming and some spot-cleaning would be nothing compared to cleaning up after 3 careless children.
I think that I have put 3 quarts of ATF in her in a year.
Do you think maybe she will need 4 quarts next year and can eke out a while longer?
She is a 23-year-old car with 225,000 miles and the current driver doesn't take good care of her.
I don't know if my Accord would be better off with the 16-year-old, though.
However, I wouldn't loan her to him, and my sister is firm and responsible.
Anyway, I found far fewer Accords and Camries and the best Accord I found was a 2000 with 212,000 miles for $3,500.
The best Camry was a 2005 with 179,000 miles for $4,200. It is beautiful and has over 20,000 fewer miles than any other in our fleet, but after my accident I saw similar cars for around $3,500.
Then there is the 1997 HX with 255,000 miles in truck country for $3,000.
The Camry is rated 21/31(25), the Accord is rated 20/28(23), and the HX is rated 33/41(36).
FuelEconomy.gov says I would save $250 a year on gas with the Camry over the Accord and another $400 with the HX.
Kelley says the Camry is worth $4,469, the Accord is worth $2,424, and the HX is worth $1,575.
Huh. They are actually asking $269 (6%) less than blue book, versus +$1,076 (+44%), and +$1,425 (+90%).
The Camry is supposed to be a much better value than the Accord and it gets better gas mileage, although they are asking $700 more. Allegedly the Accord would cost me more in 3 years and the Camry and Civic would be even in 3, but which is more likely to have 3 more years left, the Toyota with 179,000 miles, or the Honda with 255,000?
