At some point I'd like to put on ceramic coating and then wrap my manifold. The issue with just wrapping is that it can trap moisture and rust the manifold in a hurry.

You guys are teaching us beginners allot with your knowledge and insight. Thanks allot to oil, slow and Dave and to everyone else for their contributions thus far. I'm considering taking a diesel mechanics class at this point, just to lessen the learning curve a little bit. Your guys' discourse in this thread and in other threads on this site. has been a tremendous help

I think the quick and dirty way to wrap a manifold or header and not have it rust out is to sand blast it and give it a coat of spray on silicone RTV.
That is what I will likely do to my cross over pipe, the only part of my exhaust that isn't stainless steel. I would like to pull it, sand blast it and throw a coat of silicone on it, then wrap it if there is any room. It gets real tight in a few places.

Well i'm fairly certain that I was on pace to break 30mpg with this tank. I ended up doing some hauling with a trailer and that pretty much killed my chances. The truck is really doing great though all things considered. Last fill up:
410.69 miles on 14.7 gallons of gas= 27.9mpg

New tank is in. 589.2 mi on 19.239 gal = 30.63!
I must say that I have been somewhat derailed in my quest for 40mpg. While I feel it is a worthwhile and lofty goal, I have been driving the truck as sparingly as I can get away with. I don't have any instrumentation for it yet and having to wait 2 months between tanks really puts a damper on my enthusiasm for the project. I will continue to work on the truck slowly and might eventually reach this goal (next summer perhaps), but short term reality is that I don't need the truck more than a couple times a week and the Festiva is more fun and economical for me to drive. I will continue to report my tanks and mods as they come for those who are interested

No trailer pulls on this tank. Mostly back roads 40-50mph top speeds. Lots of P&G with EoC up to stops. Shifting into 5th gear as low as 25mph when on flat or downhill approach.

Its doable, not that long ago I logged just under 30mpg on a short tank where I drove from roswell NM to home at night only doing 50mph.
