I don't think you should be expecting it to make economic sense to "own" you very own pump. But maybe if you shared it with 10, 20, 50, or even 100 others, the numbers would be on your side.

With 20 users the installation would be only $90 a pop and the monthly fee is $2.30.

Google "Impco", and you'll find all you need to convert a gas engine.

What is the range of a typical CNG car? Where can you fill the tank?

As with petrol, it varies .
150 - 300 miles.

360 miles is the max for OEM cars AFAIK, VW Caddy Maxi Ecofuel

At preciously few locations in most countries.
Though (in EU) Italy, Germany are leading the way.
I've seen quite a few CNG pump in Sweden as well.

CNG cars are usually dual fuel here in the UK, so the range is as far as the next petrol station will carry you An advantage is you also save on tax as a CNG car can be re-registered as an "Alternative Fuel" vehicle, which usually means £0 tax and no charge in the London congestion zone.

It takes 9-18000 miles of CNG motoring to pay the cost of the conversion though.

Hi Arragonis,

Is it not mostly LPG in the UK?

When running CNG or LPG the engine can be modified with a higher compression ratio or turbocharging ( watch out for high exhaust temps though), thereby making more HP, so a smaller engine may be possible, with a mpg increase.

Yep - similar conversion (AFAIK ).

The conversions usually include valve lubrication kits too.

At least the ones i usually see around Stockholm they are mostly BG50 and even BG100 sometimes. BG meaning bio gas and the number being the percentage. And the bio component is made from local waste.

Its odd in Europe that LPG is cost effective, over here LPG costs as much as Diesel Fuel or gasoline (once oranges are converted to apples energy wise)

I looked at LP carefully and it ends up within a penny or two fuel cost just like diesel (using the 1.5x conversion factor)

Anyone know in WI where you could get LP at a lower rate that would make it ACTUALLY worthwhile?
