seems like i saw something that said the 97 sc1 had a cd of .33 and the sc2 was .31 and the only difference that might have benefited the sc2 over the sc1 was the spoiler. i know a number of sc1s dont have a spoiler, might not have been an option in 97? i dont know. but then alot of sc1s (mine included) do have a spoiler. also with it removed the trunk ends witha round end that i think would hurt ya.
i've thought about taking off mine despite all that, but i wouldnt take it off without testing first.

What was I (not) thinking, It was probably me :
Fuel Economy, Hypermiling, EcoModding News and Forum - EcoModder.com - cfg83's Album: Saturn
That's from my super-old Saturn brochure. The only stock difference between the SC1 and the SC2 was the spolier and the tires. On an SC1, OEM tires are 175/70-14. On an SC2, OEM tires are 195/60-15 :

I think this debate warrants a coast-down test

I'm surprised I haven't seen it on VWVortex, yet... maybe overlooked it?

OOOOOh my next tank is gonna suck. I just had to run someone to the ER for an asthma related thing. I've been sleeping on benches all night and just now got home; its 6:15 am.
Well, if we learned anything (besides make sure your friends know your allergies) it is that a single-cam Saturn laden with four people (one of them weighing in at about 280) will struggle to pass 82 mph. Thats probably a good thing, because we're all still alive.
The girl I drove to ER is OK, btw

Yeah, I'd think the SOHC engine would have been mighty displeased with that many people. In retrospect, there was a life-saving argument to be made that only you and her should have gone to the hospital. But that's not something I would have thought of "in the moment".
Anyway, saving someone is a "good" waste of gas. Lots of gas being well wasted fighting our LA forest fires right now.

I'm still trying to solve that pesky idle problem. SCarlet idles like she's shot up on heroin. I scrubbed the EGR and ran Seafoam through the intake, and in my latest effort I stripped all the parts off the throttlebody, cleaned them, and put it all back on the car.
At least I know that I haven't been hurting the earth with carbon emissions, all the carbon was in the intake >.>
Cleaning the TB didn't solve my idle problem, but it did take care of a raspy sound at high RPM. Now she sounds mean!
I'll pick up a new IAC tomorrow and repeat what i did tonight! yay!

Check your coolant temp sensor (ECT)... actually, just replace it if it's not new. They're known to crack and fail (epoxy) and will cause high idle and a rich condition. I'm going to get one today, b/c my wife's Saturn idles high and erratically and doesn't shift correctly.
