Hmmm...
To make joining more tempting, how about zeroing out the new person's average when they join? Yes, it's based on the car's 90-day average, but ... ... ... could one write the code so that for the competition, is uses a separate calc that begins when the person joins the team?

In another thread, I just read this :

I was hearing something like that too... so I reached another Winter kilotank (1057.4mi @ 66.46mpg) in a row and pushed my 3 months mpg from 61.63 (75.6%) to 63.49 (80.9%). The average length of my last 3 tanks is also over 1000mi
Denis.

Now Groar should tell us what a typical winter is like in Toulouse...
Of course, 3 kilotanks in a row is excellent hypermiling, now matter what the weather

Only 2 kilo tanks, but the average of the last 3 tanks is at 1003mi/tank
This week was 3°C (37°F) in the morning and 7°C (45°F) in the afternoon with an average of 1 hour of sun per day. Since December it has been rarely hotter. Next week should be 1°C (34°F) and 13°C (55°F) with 8 hours of sun per day but this means I will have to open my lower grill block.
Denis.

Some activity to the Motorcycle team too: just finished a tank, which I started back in February. Its average became 3.074l/100km (76.51mpgUS), not bad considering the often freezing temps during my commutes. And it's been improving since the second half of last November when the weather changed for the worse.
But finally spring is here, 12-15C(53-59F) this afternoon when we went to visit some villages where we might move soon, it became a 140km(87mi) ride eventually. Radiator block is going to stay where it is for now, though, mornings can still be cold (-3C today).
I can hardly wait for my first sub-3l tank this year - it'll finally arrive as I leave frost behind, I'm sure

Congrats Alvaro
I wish you to improve as much as I'm doing, so your 1st 2011 3L/100 (78mpg) shall happen this spring
My goal is to reach my 1st 3L/100 tank this summer
Denis.

With that 1.9 Megane? That's really something! I guess. I never had a car, we'll may buy one soon enough (if it'll be approppriate to have one next year - everything depends on price and availability of oil). I'm curious what I can do with a heavy cage.

Wow.
I've never seen anything better than 4.5L/100km on my motorcycle
Strangely enough, that's the sort of fuel economy I'm now getting out of the much heavier car !
