New guy

I've lurked on here and a few other ecomodding forums, but never posted on this one.

Started ecomodding in August when I removed my passenger side mirror, rear spoiler and moonroof deflector.

When I purchased this car several years ago it was a one year winter beater type of deal, but it's been good to me so I have kept it.

It's not the best platform to start with, but at least it's a Honda.

1991 Honda Civic Si with the 108hp D16A6
248k miles

I would average around 28-29 combined with heavy hwy miles during the winter, and 32-33 in the summer. I am currently averaging 40 combined.

I don't have the discipline to hypermile, but I do usually coast to stops when I can. I have done some ecomodding, all on my own after reading through some posts on here and elswhere.

Mods:
Passenger side mirror delete
Moonroof Deflector delete
Rear spoiler delete
35PSI in all four tires
Front air dam with partial grill block
3/4 undertray
Rear wheel skirts
Kammback
Warm air intake - the only thing I have gained with this mod is decreased engine warm up time.

I know that many civics can achieve these fuel efficiency numbers stock, not sure if it's my driving style or what. I usually go 5mph over the speed limit on the freeway, so I regularly see 65-70mph. Any tips? Thanks

I would post a couple of pictures, but I assume the 5 post count requirement is for anti-spam purposes. They will have to wait.

Welcome and nice list of mods!

Do you have and testing data for those mods? I am always on the lookout for more data to add to our wiki.

Yes the 5 post count is to block spammers, it works too

but a few replys and you will be there.

That's pretty good. You're a very knowledgable lurker I take it, heh. I mean, member. Welcome to ecomodder (officially)!
You said you don't have the discipline to hypremile, but even a 5mph drop (driving the speed limit for you) would help a lot.

I've always been under the impression that 90km/hour is the optimum speed for fuel economy. after that aero forces are working against you exponentially

In the USA the cars are rigged (or geared) for the EPA test method. That nets a 48-52 MPH range that is best for most cars.

I have seen the a - b - a testing on here, but frankly, I was too lazy to do that much testing. I have thought about doing tuft testing to see how the kammback is doing, but I don't have a camera rig, and don't want to bother any of my non ecomodding friends lol

I went with a much less scientific approach, the good ole use the same pump and go by gallons/miles per fill to gauge the gains. I was seeing 39-40 comb mpg in the last summer with no kammback or rear skirts. Then it dropped to 35-36 in colder temps, then went back up in the colder temps with the wheel skirts.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Yep 0 mods so far. Going to experiment with tire sizes and ride height. have 195 60 14 tires now going to 195 70 14 and slight lowering to give myself an effectively wider ratio. this thing always seemed to me that it could use another gear and they seem too close together for the way i drive. I tend to lug, drive it like a large truck.

My car's gearing is horrid, too. But in the opposite direction, I am at 3500rpm going 70mph. IIRC CRX HFs would be around 2500rpm going the same speed.

So do you just like shifting every 1,000 rpm? lol
