New guy from Ontario

Hey everyone

I just discovered this website a few days ago and i'm interested to learn how to get the most miles out of my tank..

I just sold a 00 Mustang 3.8L and got a 99 Honda Civic hatch and my wife drives a 03 Escape. I've been loging the mustang and escape for a while now and the best (all city driving) i could get with the mustang is 14.2L/100 km and about 15L/100 km on the escape.

From what i see here, people are getting way better fuel milage than EPA but i'm getting way worse even when being soft on the gas pedal.

So my question is, how do you guys get such good numbers
Thanks

Have you filled up the Civic yet? How's it doing compared to the other vehicles?

What type of driving do you do most?

You'll find it hardest to beat the rated mileage if you are driving (a) short trips (b) in the city (c) in heavy traffic that affords little opportunity to tailor your driving to get good results (without pissing off drivers around you).

Oh - and do you have instant feedback? Something like a ScanGauge is indispensable for adjusting the nut behind the wheel.

PS: welcome to the forum!

Thanks.

I don't have a scangauge and i've filled it up 2 times on short tanks (about 110km) and it's showing 12-13 liters just to see how it compairs to the mustang i had. With the same trips the mustang was getting about 20 L the honda is definetly better.

I'm gonna get the scangauge as soon as i save us some money and see what i can do to perfect my driving. I just with i could get my wife to do the same haha

You mean you're seeing 12-13 liters to go 110 km? (For the non-metric types, that's 18-20 mpg US.)

"Short fills" aren't terribly accurate, but that's not very good for a Civic.

What's your typical drive like?

Thanks, Bruce. That pretty much sums it up.
