New Humvee?
Driving into Sandpoint this weekend I saw a train carrying at least 100 of these. Never seen one before, but now there's at least a hundred. Are these meant to replace the ones left in Afghanistan?

Those look like the OshKosh L-ATV - one vehicles replacing the Humvee Oshkosh won a contract for 55,000 of them back in 2015.
There is no need to replace the Humvees left in Afghanistan. We gave them to the Afghans because they are surplus. The same reason a small town police department like the town I lived in back in Alabama got 5 old Humvees for free.

Do they feature an air-adjustable suspension? They look so low on that train.

They can be specs with coil springs or air springs. These trucks have 20 inches of suspension travel so the suspension will compress a lot when chained down tight to prevent any suspension travel.

Wish I'd have had a better look. Snapped the photos through the passenger window as I was driving into town. Actually took the photos knowing I'd be too tempted to gaze too long rather than pay attention to driving.
According to Wiki, they are a quarter million each. If there were 100 of 'em, that's $25M.

It costs a bit more than an armored Humvee ($220,000) but it is a bit bigger and a LOT faster. The Humvee goes 0-60 in 36 seconds vs 10 for the Oshkosh

Can it take a round to the grill without puking out coolant? I recall some protection strategy the Humvee employed.
Would be awesome if a flood of retired Humvees made them relatively cheap to acquire.

Runners seem to start about $10K This one has 40 miles since 2003 - tax dollars well spent.

Roughly 40 years of technical development for Diesel engines playin their role. IIRC the Humvee is still fitted with a slightly modernized version of the Detroit Diesel 6.5L V8 rebranded Optimizer 6500, with the 3.4L Steyr M16 available as option.
