A New Internal Combustion Engine Allegedly Produces Nearly Zero Harmful Emissions

Quote:
only 35 lb (16 kg) and produces an output of 160 horsepower 170 pound-feet of torque.
https://www.motor1.com/news/563664/n...engine-design/

That doesn't sound possible. A Civic engine can put out 160 HP, but weighs over 300 pounds.

8.6 times the power-to-weight?!

I agree it doesn't sound possible. I'll watch the videos later. Can I reserve an Elio with that engine?

I don't understand how the cool side and hot side are connected, but it strikes me as similar to the Scuderi/Entry Combustion designs that separate the two, on a crankshaft.

Also don't understand why the two rotors are hollow.

I went back and Thanked Xist too.

So it is a Brayton cycle, just translated away from the rod and wheel paradigm. I still don't understand the hubless design, but maybe it has something to do with the aviation focus.

Quote:
Note: This technology is projected to be capable of flying through a flock of birds, volcanic ash, smoke, and sand without skipping a beat, as well as the highest altitude flying capability that exists. Also does not require rotor seals at all. Tight tolerances and high RPMs solve that problem, not enough time for the air to leak when running!
Neat! Especially as it's self-cooling.

What's next, someone brings up RWTHs IKV engine?

Yes Aviation.

Think rocket engine...

Hollow rotors with added bell shaped nozzles for thrust. (afterburners)

Run as a internal combustion engine as high as possible (100,000 ft. ?)

Quote:
then rotate engine to utilize nozzles with Liquid oxygen and hydrogen when there’s no atmosphere...

Very cool... 😎

They would have to sort out what your referent might be.

redneck -- Single stage to orbit, like the UK Skylon? I was thinking more along the lines of Jetoptera.

If it exhausts into the central flow does that make it a complicated pulse jet?

2nd edit: Okay, I need to get my 3D printer up and running. A proof of concept model seems achievable, but with lost PLA casting techniques, a hubless bicycle wheel motor is within possibility. You couldn't sell them because patents, but one could make one's own.

Since they spin in opposite directions the air flow should be opposed, so a rear wheel motor could blow into 90˚ elbows. ....with afterburners!

emissions

Perhaps they didn't get the memo about carbon dioxide.
And competing against 'engines' with a BSFC-e of 0.0795 lbs/ bhp-hr should be interesting.

'I pity the fool!' Mr. T
