New prius announced!

https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/16/busin...eal/index.html

Toyota officially revealed the new prius. 220hp engine. Much much more powerful. Also plug in version has 50 percent longer range

Apparently the mpg increase is only 1mpg higher than the current prius. That’s a bummer. It says the focus is on power and styling

Looks like a “ separation trap” was added in the back too

Prius didn't need to get more fuel efficient, it needed to not suck at accelerating.

0-60 in 6 seconds.

Most perfect Prius to date.

More horsepower and more aero, you’d think the highway mpg would skyrocket with that…

The refractiver index of windshield glass is ~1.5

Typical Results for Refractive Index Determination of Glass
Table 2. Index of Refraction for Specific Glasses; Glass Index of Refraction; Windshield glass 1: 1.518: Windshield glass 2: 1.520: Headlight glass from Toyota Celica: 1.478: Headlight glass from Chevrolet Eurosport: 1.488
This means as windshield angles pass 45 degrees, more light is reflected and less passes through. ... when the glass is clean.

I just wonder how much utility the hatch area has compared to the outgoing models?

If the overall height is the same it's likely unchanged.

Pitch something toward the bottom of the windshield and you'll never reach it again.

Tomorrow the announce the full US specs so hopefully we get an official CD and mpg listing. Probably .23 drag. Doubt it could get .22 like a Porsche taycan with a smooth under tray abs no front grill

Freebeard I have my front windshield tinted with crystalline 70 from 3m and the reflection makes it very hard to see through from the outside. lol

Looks good finally! 0-60 is 6.6 I think. I am happy with that though. My Sequoia does about that and it feels quick for a normal vehicle.
I will be honest the annoying part about my gen 3 prius is it is a bit too slow on the interstate, but feels perfect around town. Kinda makes me want to a v8 on long journeys instead.

'Cd 0.197'

https://www.whichcar.com.au/news/202...-for-australiaThe greencarreports.com website is attributing Cd 0.197 to the new Prius, down from 0.24, delta-Cd 0.05, 50-counts, a 17.916% drag reduction ( Cd-wise ).
The car's supposed to be 2-inches lower.
Don't know about frontal area and CdA.
So they've caught up with the 1996 EV1, and just short of the 1990 Cd 0.196 ROVOMOBIL cardboard and duct tape special, and Cd 0.195, 1978 Daimler-Benz' M-B C-111 III ( M-H ).
Glad to see it!
whichcar.com.an/news/2023-toyota-prius
has a photo, not exactly 'true-length, but something aerodynamically informative
