With the miracles of turbocharging, nowadays 4-cyl engines dominate the medium-duty truck market in my country...

Plug into Miles Electric Vehicles, Miles Electric Vehicles
The truck pictured there could (with a great deal of red tape) be imported in gasser form with a decent box, make an aero topper and it should be good for the low to mid 30's.
Cheers

No doubt, but they would be a more economical vehicle than a 6000lb+ toyo, dodge, chevy or ford.
Even come with a 4-6speed manual and dual range 4 wheel drive optional

The only limitation is their payload. But they're an interesting base for a trail rig

It would be nice if the Government would allow us to have these type of little trucks here, so much for "Freedom". You can ride a motorcycle, "at your own risk" but not a Kei truck or any 4 wheel vehicle with a lightweight Lexan windshield....

My father has had upwards of 3/4 ton in the back of our zx40 without issue. mini trucks are available in 1 ton designations, a handfull of "export" models even can come with a diesel. As simple as they are there is no reason that you couldn't beef up the backend if you needed more than 1 ton carrying cap.
Oh, and you can buy mini trucks legally for the road, but they need to either
1. Be an electric conversion with a speed limiter
2. Be purchased by the government for on road use
Then you can buy it used if your state will cooperate with you.
Cheers

The electric trucks are legal only as a "Neighborhood Electric", 25 mpg max, so that would be illegal on many roads, and suicidal on most of the rest around here. Arizona does allow some Kei trucks to be registered as ATV's, which are now legal to be made street legal. The first quad I saw on the street with plates, was a BUILT Yamaha Rapter, the rider said he had a LOT of "Fun" with the local Police who did not know the law had changed! I have seen a couple of Kei trucks around, but now their pricing is increasing, $6-$8 thousand and up for nice ones, but there are people who regularly spend $20k+ on UTV's and even 50K to 100K on "Sand Cars" with over 500 horsepower, and make them street legal. Must be nice to have that kind of "Disposable" income!

It really doesn't make so much sense. But did you know there are 3-wheeled mini trucks based in the design of those Kei trucks? Those would be probably easier to make road-legal back there. I have seen one in Uruguay a few years ago, and really regret to not have taken a few pictures of that...
