I have RedPepperRacing's copy of a service manual:
87 Civic Factory Service Manual

I'll dig into it. That's strange, to say the least.

Edit:

Well I'll be... Thanks for the info Ryland!

Don't try straight 30 weight oil in the tranny. I did that in an '85 Accord. It was easy to crunch a shift when cold. Even in their acceptable temperature range for 30 weight oil. I have Honda's MTF in the '91 Civic I'm driving. Didn't shift any better than it did with whatever was in it before.

I don't know about straight 30 weight, but I can say that I haven't had any trouble using 0W30 oil in both my 1981 civic and my 1993 civic, the Honda branded MTF is also supposed to be safe, $7-10 per quart last I checked and I'm not sure the life span of it.
Other thing with the CRX HF is tires, it's supposed to take the same size as the civic vx if I remember correctly, 165/70R13 if I'm not mistaken, hard to find size but a size that you can get in low rolling resistance from tirerack.com
Also, your PCV valve, I think is under your intake manifold, hard to get to and seldom checked or changed.

Tires aren't a problem, have a friend in said dealership that can find them. Does the wheel/tires department.

This chart may make the "motor oil in the tranny" idea seem less bizarre:

I guess Honda just wanted a tranny oil thinner than any gear oil on the market.

And I guess with such low power motors and light weight cars, they really don't need the heavier oils.

10w-30 worked fine in my 1984 Civic Wagon.

I'd clean the PCV valve out with carb cleaner or get a new one from Honda. I once tried a Fram valve and it failed the factory manual's test about 50% of the time. I had pretty good luck getting the valve out of the breather chamber just by pulling on the hose.

Will do.

At any rate, carb gasket goes in. Waiting on the ebay seller to ship the corner marker so this thing can goto inspection..

Nice build thread! Good to see an unmolested CRX stay that way and running in top shape and looking good to boot!

Should be on the road this week! The Civic side marker finally came in, and got it to fit for the time being (will get a properly fitting CRX one when it pops up, but it needs to pass inspection now) and we'll just have to make a carb gasket, none seem to exist.

Which is excellent, because I'm having to fill up about $90+ a week at the moment between school and work. Thankfully, finals end this week, so it'll just be down to work for the CRX. Be able to see what it's really capable of.
