In the news--not sure where to post this

The Cincinnati Enquirer has a pretty positive article about hypermiling on the front page of today's paper.

I heard a radio DJ quoting a news source this morning - can't remember which source - that with gas prices falling, people were losing interest in the compact economy cars.

That didn't take long.

I think the vast majority of people could be replaced just as easily by flatworms. Stimulus = response, without all that messy psychology in between.

I also see the trend where people seem to be "comfortable" with gas below $4.00 per gallon here in the US. Not me! I will keep doing this until gas goes back to 1996 prices!

Gasoline in 1996 was $.99 per gallon.

Ain't gonna happen. Wouldn't be surprised if it hits $5/gal by this time next year.

Link in original post is dead.

I can't even remember gas prices being that low then. Was it really only back in '96....that doesn't seem that long ago to me.

Funny you guys should mention low gas prices in the "good ol' days". I just watched Die Hard a few days ago and in the scene where the cop (Reginald Val Johnson) gets the call to check out the Nakatomi building he is at the gas station and walks past the price signs.... I was surprised to see regular unleaded in Los Angeles in 1988 for only $0.749/gallon! WOW!!!

I just swiped this from the "Good take on things (long)" thread :

The "average" price was around $1.30, but the 1979 inflation adjusted price was $0.60 !!!
