I have had the EMW JuiceBox Premium for 39 days now, and we have used 499kWh in that time. That averages 12.79kWh / day, which is about $2.43 / day.
What a sweet ride.

Not bad, about a gallon of gas a day. Im sure if I started to use half a mega watt a month my power company would find a way to tack on extra charges.

No. They usually try to find a way to reduce the charge as with a demand meter.

There are already much larger than 48kWh batteries on the road. It is just a matter of price. Nissan could build this option tomorrow. And a measley 6.6kW charger could still charge this battery at home overnight.

Some information on the possible VW battery - that may give them "more than three times the range of their current EV's":
VW Challenges Tesla With "Disruptive" New EV Battery
It is a solid state lithium battery, apparently.

good stuff, fyi I just set the charge timer to always charge to 80% on my 2012 (supposed to help with battery life and is suggested by nissan). Want to Charge Your LEAF to 80%?
Also did some of the cost/kwh math. My utility charges $0.105/kwh for residential. With a heavy foot I get about 2mi/kwh, which at $2/gal is cost equivalent to 40mpg (which is much less spirited driving in the prius, and pretty much unobtainable in any car at the same performance level). With hypermiling I've seen 5mi/kwh in the leaf, so it is STILL a good deal at $0.10/kwh vs $2/gal, without a doubt. It does plow into the corners though, but ah well, I would like to see a "real" handbrake so it can drift in the snow.

I have been able to hold 4.9miles/kWh in the colder weather (I think the battery heater comes on?) while I was able to hit 5.0 for several days with slightly warmer temperatures. Of course this is the dash display, and the actual charge is higher consumption.

Is that what you are really paying? Take the bottom line dollar amount of what you wrote the check for and divide it by the total kWh used.
