No lean burn? (2005 Civic EX)

I recently was blessed with an 05 civic ex... At the time of purchase I was ignorant there was even such a thing as "lean burn", and now I'm dismayed that I don't have it. Is there still any hope for saving loads at the pump?

Even the EX civic has great potential for mileage. More than the EPA numbers suggest.

I have an 05 EX as well.



Here's what I've done to it so far to get to 56 mpg, and more is definitely possible.

Noob

I have to apologize for my "noob-ness", but coil overs?
And how/ where did you apply the inside mirrors?
Also, the front blockage, how did you attach those?
I was thinking of just getting those low pro tires... Wouldn't that have the same effect?

Lectric, I have an EX Sedan, is yours a 2 or 4 door? My grill block is just pipe insulation jammed into upper grill areas on my car, you'd barely notice it if you weren't looking. And take your tires up to 38-40psi, adjust how you drive and you'll save 10-15% right now. How much can you mess with your car? I'm not going whole hog with mine cause there's a 40% chance I'll sell it in a year or 2. I do love my Civic though, it's the best compromise of size, safety, performance, reliability, and styling of any car out there. For $9,000 used 2 years ago, it's been great. I was driving a Sierra 1500 Pick up before, and the fuel savings alone over the truck has saved me at least $6,500 in the 55,000 miles I've put on the Honda.

Major side note, I just changed my cabin air filters. You really want to check these particularly in Florida, I think it will really boost your AC performance if they're dirty and clogged. Here's a link to a U-Tube video that was a "Shoot, is that all there is to it" moment for me. NAPA had them on sale for $16.50 2 days ago.

No apologies necessary. Coilovers are simply combined spring/shock apparatus, although the term is generally used to denote aftermarket suspensions with adjustable ride height. There are a variety of coilovers available for 7th gen Civics, as well as numerous lowering springs and shock absorbers.

To mount the mirrors, I ordered new sail panels (I think Honda calls them "mirror garnishes") for an LX/DX/HX, which don't have a tweeter in them.

Originally, I had cardboard with duct tape over it as temporary grill blocks. Then I got rid of that and attached aluminum flashing with some nuts and bolts from Menards. A couple months ago I removed that and used expanding foam and fiberglass to fill the lower opening and upper grill permanently.

I think you mean low-rolling resistance tires? I mounted those on steel wheels so I could use the solid wheel covers, but I toyed with the idea of pizza pans at first (the center "H" on each wheel pops off and could have a bolt fixed to it somehow to attach the pan).
