Mostly, it's the fact that it's a WHOLE LOTTA SUGAR that nobody needs, and IT'S IN EVERYTHING!
I do agree that a lot of things are about "dosing" or "self-control". Since corn syrup is is SO pervasive, the average American gets WAY more of it (and all those extra calories that go along with it!) than anyone realizes.
By eliminating corn syrup, I am now paying FAR more attention to what it's in, where, and how much!
PS: For anyone interested, I am 6 foot tall, medium build, and weigh 183 lbs.

Way to go, dude! I stopped doing HFCS a few years ago after I became simultaneously aware of both the nutritional issues and the way the corn industry scams our economy with their ethanol and sweeteners, all on subsidy. It really is in everything, and it took a while to find replacements -- but they are there to be found. Like you, Breyers was also my first big discovery. Bread was a tough one. Unfortunately I can't help with a lot though, b/c my diet has since simplified to a sort of macrobiotic-plus, just from gravitating towards my Japanese sensibilities. Best of luck to you, and I'll be following this thread to see what you find!

Bread! Ack! I gotta check this! (away from keyboard)
OK - I am back!
I just checked - High Fructose Corn Syrup is ingredient #4!
There goes toast and sandwiches! This may require a trip to the bread store....

You can probably find HFCS-free bread in the supermarket, but it involves going through every variety of every brand. I like Orowheat, but you'll find even the "health-foodish" brands have it in most of the varieties. If you can temporarily settle for just "corn syrup" while eliminating HFCS, you can open your options a bit.

I don't know what it's like in WI, but here in my part of PA there is actually a GROWING assortment of bread that's HFCS free. They use "raisin juice" or molasses instead. Not great, but better for you than HFCS. Here's some rules of thumb:
1. NO WHITE BREAD.
2. NO SQUARE BREAD.
3. 'NATURAL' OR 'WHOLE' ON THE LABEL.
Brown bread shaped kinda like the aerocivic is basically what I look for first, and then check ingredients from there.
Watch out on cereal too! And Peanut Butter!
JIF has a new "natural" peanut butter. It has a little sugar in it and some molasses (to smooth the texture and act as an emulsifier) but it fr'deeking ROCKS as far as natural peanut butter goes. Beats Smucker's Natural nine ways from zero.

Bread is easy... go to a bakery. No self-respecting baker would add that crap to bread.
Better yet, DIY bread. When i was in school my roomates and I ALWAYS had a bowl of dough proofing on the shelf... use it, you make a new one. Ate a lot of bread, pizza, rolls, dumplings, breadsticks... mmm... hungry...

Thanks for all the tips, guys!
I already knew about coffee creamer. That's mostly corn syrup solids. I use half-and-half in my coffee, but something to watch out for if I end up getting bad coffee at a gas station or something.
Also, any FLAVORED liquid coffee creamer is SEETHING with corn syrup.
As for bread, the bread I already had IS 100% whole wheat, yet still had high fructose corn syrup.
I just stopped by my local "bread thrift store" and bought a couple loaves of "Health Nut" bread. It weighs twice as much as the other loaf of bread and has about nine different grains and nuts in it - and NO corn syrup - high fructose or otherwise.
I may try a little bit of actual bread baking during this experiment. I guess it isn't that hard, just takes a little time.
I'm also all set on peanut butter. I found one at the store, years ago, which is made 20 miles from me and contains ONLY peanuts and salt. That's it!
Now I just need to double-check all Pizzas for if they have corn syrup in their sauce or not!!!!
PS: One of my YouTube subscribers has decided to join me on my Corn Syrup Free adventure!
"jmoyet has made a comment on No More Corn Syrup!:
Hey I'll join ya on the No Corn Syrup for 30 days.
Iv already drank a few sodas today so I guess my first day would start tomorrow."

Hope you love your bread! It took me a long time experimenting to build up to the nuttier varieties of sprouted-concrete loaves.
Important Tip: Refrigerate it! Otherwise it'll mold faster than anything.
