Non-member using our tips

This evening I ran into a guy I sail with (against), and he just got back from a big tour taking his family to visit relatives in Thunder Bay, Ontario (west end of L. Superior) driving something like a Montana minivan.

He said that before he left, he hit the 100+ driving tips list and made some mental notes.

Result: best highway trip fuel economy to date, mostly by reducing speed, accelerating more carefully (automatic), using N on downhills, and generally paying more attention (anticipating).

I offered to lend him my ScanGauge next time he's taking the family on the road again.

---

Also rode to a family reunion with an aunt & uncle, and he's dropped his highway cruising speed by 10 km/h (to about 108). He thinks drivers have generally slowed down on the roads.

I wish I also lived in Ontario so that I can borrow your Scangauge for a trip or so. Just kidding! I have not bought one yet because I don't think I can recoup the cost in a short enough period of time. I am already a rather thrifty driver without it, and so is my wife, well, up to a point. Obviously most members here are thrifty too, with or without the gauge.
I am hoping that one day there will be an easy to use simple mpg only gauge on the market selling for a lot less than the Scangauge. It should be fool proof and completely self calibrating, i.e. plug and use. I hope Scangauge's manufacturer can hear me.
Back to success stories, I am happy to report that I have just broken the 500 km per tank barrier. Don't laugh! It has not been an easy job for me considering my 09 2.4L auto AWD Matrix's small tank capacity (50 liters, and you won't want to use up more than 90% of it any time) and the unbroken in condition of the car, plus the type of traffic that I am often in. Another factor is perhaps that my wife drives the car more than I do, and that is also the reason why I need a very very straight forward mpg gauge.

swng: you have seen this thread, right? http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...ge-4369-2.html

I've said this elsewhere, but I'd be surprised if Linear Logic didn't already have a design in the works which is strictly a fuel economy gauge for less money that the bells & whistles standard edition. They have to expect that the market is going to grow.

Thanks for the link Captain! You are always so helpful. The Scangauge is of course a great product. I am a technical illiterate and even the Scangauge is too complicated for me, and when it comes to cars, I am definately not the DIY type. It is really really bad that the Matrix does not have an mpg monitor that is so widely available (by whatever name it is called) on other late model cars these days. The Subaru Imprezza has it, the Suzuki SX4 has it and almost all the German cars have it. I will wait for the Linear Logic product that you described to appear on the market and then decide if I want one. It will have to be a no-brainer to install.
BTW, sorry for side tracking. Now back to success stories. I enjoy reading your stories and sharing your joy on this sub-forum ladies and gentlemen.
