Oh no, another Australian
Hi all,
Yet another Ecomodder checking in. I'm Ben (the 4th one here I understand!) and I'm from Australia. I've been turning a bit green recently, partly because of wanting to do my bit and partly to save some money.
Having recently sold my thirsty and fragile 5.7 Litre LS1 powered luxury car (14L per 100KM / 17MPG), I'm now cruising around in a 2005 Toyota Echo (also known as the Vitz and Yaris in some markets). That alone has more than doubled my fuel economy!
Hope to see some improvements thanks to my newly adopted driving habits and some ideas I've picked up here. First up, I plan to install a Scangauge!
Here it is! 1.3L VVTi, Manual, 850kg and 5.8L/100km (or about 40MPG I think). Oh, and the drag coefficient is 0.3 according to Toyota. Quite economical in stock form

Hello and welcome to the site. Great little car you have there. With a few good driving techniques alone you could easily see 50+ mpg.

hello ben. i've never seen so many ben's before. i d'no about you, but i'm used to being the only one.
i wish i could get my hands on a yaris. once my 91 dies, i'm looking to buy something new, $10k max. so that severely limits my choices. so far i've seen the hyundai "geo metro" clone. probably pretty close, at least in shape, to the yaris.

Oh Noes! OZ! Welcome
Is it really .3? Holy crapper... Well, it is a hatch .3 leaves plenty of room for improvement
Now if only the hpv fairing we just designed could be put on a car... CFD cD value is .09!!!

sweet yaris dude. I love the short nose on them. my cousin and I took a road trip from central italy to southern italy in a 2006, and it was a fast little car. she averaged I'd say 160-170kph the whole 5 hr trip
not so good for mpg, and I nearly had an ulcer from the experience.
You get great kpl at about half that speed I guess.
frank
btw: sweet rims!
the tires are nice and wide.
and the side markers are blingin!

Welcome bro...
BTW, what was the 5.7L vehicle -- a Holden Commodore (U.S. GTO)?
But yeah, the new ride is definitely a good choice -- light, fun, and efficient. Best FE to ya...

It was a Holden Statesman, basically a long wheelbase luxury version of the Commodore. It was a whole lot of fun but I'm extremely glad that it's out of my life. Unfortunately, not only did it burn through fuel faster than I could pay for it, it kept running into problem after problem after problem
Here's the old ride for anyone who is interested!

Which part of Australia? I've spent a fair amount of time in Freemantle/Perth while in the US Navy... I've got a good friend married a Perth gal and moved down there.
Back in the 80s during a visit, me and some shipmates rented a Holden Commodore for the week. Great car and it seemed to do quite well on fuel... Threw us all for a loop to buy petrol by the liter!!! Man, I'd love to go back for some BBQ Mussels...

Nice ride...looks fast and comfortable.
I had the same problem that eventually worked out for the better:
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII: bad on fuel, and also -- problem after problem. Those days are long gone Here's to FE
