one fast hybrid

I do not admire hybrids..espicially if they do not have an ICE with natural balance (any engine that can run exactly balanced with a benz crank is a "natural balanced" engine)
flat four
flat six
90 degree v8
60 degree v12
are some examples that can run with benz crank perfectly, no errors.

anyho... found this porsche gt3 race car, makes use of a gyroscopic type function, the flat six will never eat it (any inline engine would kill the "gyro"). This concept with porsche goes back to ferdinand days (it is actually an old idea)

Loved to see this.

Why on earth would you think that? The "gyro" is actually a high-speed flywheel that takes the place of the battery in a conventional hybrid. It's not even connected to the IC engine (execpt through the track), but to the electric motor/generators driving the front wheels.

The advantage of the flywheel for electrical storage is that it's not rate-limited, which allows much higher currents than an equivalent battery pack could deliver, and thus much more assist/braking power. This of course is a definite plus for racing applications.

Animated Engines, Gnome Rotary

Here is an engine that is a flywheel.

Just create a means of eliminating the stroke position offset relative to the spinning engine block and you have an engine that transforms itself into a flywheel, capable of storing energy for short bursts of power.

Filed a patent application for that in April 2004.

You could also put magnets on the perimeter and make it an engine (ic), electric motor, as well as a capacitive energy storage.

All in the same unit.

Drawings of that made August 3rd 2003.

The problem I see is that the energy would be dissipated by the piston friction in relatively short order. What Porsche is using is probably (I haven't seen details) spinning on magnetic bearings in a vacuum, like this: Flywheel energy storage - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

James if you eliminate the stroke by making the journal off set adjustable, then the pistons are not moving in their respective cylinders. They orbit with the cylinders without motion relative to the cylinders themselves. Combine it with a CVT and you can pulse a glide the motor without changing the speed of the vehicle.

that was 2004 thinking.

Ferrari is working on a similar example. The technology is adapted from the Formula One KERS system. Basically use regenerative braking energy and reintroduce it directly into the transmission.
