moserial

For those who want to view real time data and configure your open source controller using an open source operating system, try moserial. If you are using Fedora or Ubuntu just go the the Add/Remove Software in the System menu and search for moserial, 1 click and it's installed. Set up is easy as it automatically found my serial to usb converter, just had to choose it from the menu. Screen shot should have all the info you need, just remember to set the device to whatever is appropriate for your system. I found that before sending any commands to the controller you need to hit enter first, type command and hit enter again. Font type and size is also configurable, I made it large so I could glance at it easily while driving.

Greg

EDIT: I have added this to the wiki. Also on the bottom right of the screen shot I have found it works better to set the outgoing to <CR end> and not <CR+LF end> as shown.

After days of struggling with the AVR and accidentally locking its programming fuse, I've moved on.
I'm now using Paul's board but with a PIC24FJ. It's much easier to program (I think), cheap, and the development environment is free, like AVR.
Right now I've got the LED, UART, ADC, and PWM working. I just tested it at 24volts with an Etek motor that I have.
IT WORKS! First time I've used the power section.
I'll post my code, and an eagle PCB schematic and board that can plug right into the AVR socket if anyone is interested.

Fran explained to me today how he does a sort of home made DC-DC. I'm going to build my own version, and then the vla501 or whatever will no longer be necessary. And the AC control board will be dramatically simplified too. The cost is going to be WAY WAY cheaper. I believe less than $10 for the near equivalent of the vla501:

4 of these:

15v zener diode to clamp the voltage.

Bulk capacitor to turn the output voltage into DC.

A couple resistors and a couple MLCC capacitors for the 555 timer above.

Basically, you run the 555 timer at around 50 to 100kHz, and that 5v signal goes to the mosfet driver. The mosfet driver makes a square wave on the primary side of the line filter above. The output side then gets a similar square wave. YOu use the zener diode to clamp the output voltage, and the 4 schottkys to rectify it. Bam!

Your genius scares me! I'm just waiting to see how you are going to do next.

Well, I'm an expert at taking someone else's idea, messing it up the first 5 times, and then getting it to work. hahaha.

I just ordered the parts for a prototype of the isolated DC-DC. ya! I'm going to breadboard it this week if I have time. I also ordered some 12w 100 Ohm resistors that I can put in parallel and series so as to test the load on the output up to around 500mA, and see what's what.
