How many mpg's have you gained for removing the passanger mirror?

Did you ever try removing both to see an even higher mpg gain? If so, what was it?

IIRC the green mirror was only 5 or 10 dollars, but Ive already got my eye on a new mirror to replace it. I've never done any actual aba tests with the mirrors so Im not really sure what the exact gain was but I could tell there was a small gain

I'm planning on doing this with the Clunker, but I need brighter backup lights first, due to the shape and condition of my driveway.

Deleting side mirrors and flying with convex mirrors may have some aerodynamic pro's, however the convex mirrors are dangerous to use as it is difficult to gauge how close the car behind you or beside you really is.
My thoughts.

^^ Sure but we already are used to that since 90% of all passanger side mirrors are already convex...

Plus its not like you can't get used to it. Just takes some practice, like anything you do new.

I always have to turn my head and look in the blind spot anyway. The driver's side mirror is mainly to look for cops, swerving vehicles, etc.

I use the same blind-spot mirror on the interior of my car on the driver's side (to cure a blind-spot), but I question whether they are large enough to use on the passenger side. A car to your RR would be about a quarter of an inch high in that tiny convex mirror on the passenger door. I suspect you would have difficulty seeing one even if it had its lights on.

I don't understand mods like this. How much additional fossil fuel will be used when you have an accident because you didn't see a car in the other lane just that one unlucky time?

Same goes for turning off engines and other stupid crap like that they are always showing on TV as "hypermiling techniques".

Yup. My wife and my parents just couldn't get used to it. I always tell people that there is an acclimatization period. Conversely (or Convexly?!?!?), my center-rear-view information gives me way *superior* information to what others see. Now that I am used to the distances, there are times when I can lane change without turning my head because I can see *every* *single* *lane* with no blind spots. In this situation the cars are far enough back to make the lane change 99% safe (I never say 100% for lane changes).
