2 x bad news 
First, winter is here. Even though I still haven't seen snow, the temps are noticeably lower, which shows up on the fuel consumption monitor, even with a prewarmed engine. Winter tires hurt more than the thinner oil helps. Today was the first time since May that I filled up with less than 1550km on the odo (only 1450km). Pure city driving, and towing my brother-in-law's car with a cold engine, didn't help. The effect is 4.0 l/100km instead of the 3.9 I almost got used to
Second, I lost the better part of my engine tray today I was backing up when I heard a loud noise under the car, then saw a piece of plastic on the pavement. The rear part of the tray must have been hanging down and caught on something while backing up, snagging and breaking. The tray was already damaged when I bought the car - there was a hole on the right side. Now only the front (up to the oil pan) and a little of the left remains, about 1/3 of the whole. I have yet to inspect it closely, hopefully the oil pan heating pad is OK, but the tray needs to be replaced anyway (cost ~60-100€). I'd like to make a custom tray, but it won't pass inspection, so I'll have to settle for the OEM (or similar) version, with all its holes and bulges. Grrr

Tomorrow I should pick up a new engine tray. The original tray had (green) foil glued to the middle to reflect the oil pan's heat, the new one probably doesn't (it's made by a local company, not OEM). So what could I glue to the new tray (kitchen-grade alu foil, 2mm styrofoam with foil on one side, ?), and what kind of glue will hold it to the HDPE tray in extreme heat/cold/moisture? I was wondering if I should cover one whole side, instead of just the middle, but I doubt that would make any difference in warm-up or cool-down times.

Quite a job you did here! I'm pleased to see such a successful research done in Poland. You're an engineer, aren't you? I like the rear-light-dust-thing you've noticed  Congrats.

Some of that heat-reflective, glue-on engine bay insulation stuff ?

3M VHB tape ?
Or another double sided tape used for automotive applications.
My rear licence plate holder is actually glued on.

I just got the windshield cover I ordered:
Just in time, this weekend winter will finally start.
Since it also covers the side windows, the solar trickle charger (which was on the dash) no longer works. I thought maybe to relocate it to the sunroof, but - The glass is tinted, so the PV's output will be reduced,
- It gets mighty hot up there, especially when I put in alu foil to reduce cabin temperatures.

What happens when moisture goes under the windshield cover and then freezes? Is it possible to remove cover easily or should you warm windshield enough to melt ice?

I was worried about that since my roof bubble will cause water to flow down the windshield. The windshield cover is made of PP and has a rough, not smooth surface, so hopefully it won't stick.

Did you fit a sump heater, or am I remembering / making something up ?
If you did how large was the pad that you fitted to the sump ?

It's a Wolverine, 125W model.
Works great in tandem with the 650W coolant heater
