Still maintaining around 37-38 mpg according to the SG...which is backed up by tank to tank refill mpg....better than a 2 mpg gain from last summer's avg mpg.
Why do I think this works?
* reduction in intake restriction?
* the fact that the ID of the filter tube (being thick rubber) is LESS than the ID the the thinner plastic tube of the AFM...causing a slight venturi effect...or reduced air pressure right where the AFM sensors are? Possibly somewhat similar in effect to using a carb spacer?
* doubtful if there are any significant air intake temp differences from my previous setup....where I had the intake snorkel removed and also the resonator resulting in some reduced intake restriction. Paper filter was only 1 yr old.
Article measuring the intake restrictions on a car....

Under the auspices of NOT "putting the cart before the horse"...I've tested this and found that it works to improve mpg on this particular car (the horse). The explanations as to WHY it works are secondary...or ARE the cart. I will ride the horse...you can ride in the cart.
.......
This actually turns out to be a very cost and labor effective mod for the mpg gain. But you must BELIEVE!
$26...bit of duct tape...a clamp and 5 mins gets you started.....need to check OD of intake tube and fitment of the filter. Remove top of airbox and old filter...install new filter.
My filter has a 3.5" OD...same as intake tube...ID of filter tube is LESS than intake tube.
Have since reduced the amount of foam used under the filter...it now only supports just the end of the filter. Also cleaned and re-oiled the filter.
