as opposed to irrational bull sxxxxters.

Please remove the reference to "a-b testing' in your post.
it's a lie.
a deception to try to seek credibility.
A ruse to try to 'seem' like one of the honest, serious posters.
A smoke screen to cover factless postings.

Please respond to this one fact: "a-b testing can not take place over two summers"

come on.

you are more than welcome to 'state' your results over two summers. Just don't lie about how it happened.

Strict A-B testing would give erroneous results due to ECU adjustments over time.

IF I continue to see an avg gain of 2 mpg over time...even in cooler weather...I say it's case closed. I'd even settle for 1 mpg.

Will be interesting to see if anyone actually tries this...I'd recommend a Focus....similar year.

WHAT!!!!!!!

Duhhhhhhhh!

That's WHY it is done over a very brief period.
To allow for NO or VERY little changes.

Please pull your head out....quit re-inventing definitions to meet your needs.

How many times do we have to hash this out.

CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT IS THE KEY TO ANY TEST. PERIOD.

When you say 'I a-b tested', 99% of the people reading KNOW that it is over a brief period with as much control of the outside elemnts as possible.
Yet you want it to mean "over 12 months of random conditions"
Dont even begin to discuss that every part on your car has aged 12 months!!!!

Stick to the facts.
1. proof to me that my definition of 'testing', 'a-b testing' are incorrect.
2. show were any credible results are NOT tested in a controlled environment

Finally, your logic is false.
1. STRICT a-b testing by it's very nature eliminates as much varience as possible
2. something that by fact & design is for a very brief period cant be eroneous over time because 'over time' is eliminated!

The ECU will adjust pretty much instantly once you're in closed loop mode to maintain the air/fuel ratio. Ignition timing won't be effected with a simple filter change.

Strict A-B-A testing is the proper way to test this mod. Tank to tank has way too much irregularity to see a solid +/- 1 to 2 mpg gain or loss.

A good read:

Let's relax, people.

The points have been made. Anyone reading this thread has enough info to form an opinion on the merits of the claims made.

Thanks!

Hm... I seem to recall that somebody on this board got nearly as much gain on his vehicle by removing his cone filter and re-installing his factory air induction system... No extra holes were drilled that would have allowed extra air into the factory induction system, either... Wonder who could that be...

I went from a aFe cone induction system back to a factory induction system, complete with traditional non-cone filter element, and netted a gain of around 5% FE.

Then again, the factory induction system has an intake air heater powered by warm engine coolant. Do note, however, that the factory system does not have any extra holes drilled for purposes of drawing in more air.
