Could you post picture(s) of your rear 1/2 undertray? I could build one but haven’t figured out how to do the sides, axle beam or exhaust area, so pretty much nothing is figured out.

Also any pictures of rust (which is probably mostly now under that undertray) would be appreciated a lot.

Why sell it after all that work? Got another project in mind?

redpoint5: I already picked up next winter's beater: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...ase-33736.html

---

Speeed3: will do. I have a couple of undertray pics but they're not very good (needs to be on a lift). But I'll post a more detailed description today.

The worst rust was on the rocker panels: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...els-32527.html ... the underbody itself isn't bad. Starting to go on some components like gas tank straps and other spots where the original undercoating has cracked/peeled.

Prius rear undertray details

A couple of poor quality pictures:

Above: from the side looking back.

Same as above.

From rear looking forward: you can see the cutouts for the rear strut perches/mounts and how the coroplast tucks into the rearmost section.

Overview:

Notes:

Blue
outline is the main section of undertray with additional Green sections at the rear and out sides.

1) A full width (~48 inch) coroplast sheet fits perfectly between the rear wheels (with cutouts for the rear strut mounts/perches)

2) Red "X" indicates attachment point - screws into factory plastic undertrays, except "A" and "C".

3) "A" is a crossmember in the exhaust tunnel. I fished some wire through a hole in it, and twist tied it to the coro.

4) "B" is a cutout I made for the exhaust pipe, which would have touched the coroplast there.

5) "C" because the twist beam rear axle has to move, you can't make a fixed attachment to it, or it'll pull against the other screws. So I used elastic cord (bungee cord) wrapped twice around the axle+coro to secure it there.

6) The main (blue) sheet tucks in (above) a smaller fixed rear sheet, and it's free to "float" above it to allow some movement caused by movement at the rear axle.

7) You'll have to come up with your own way to make cutouts in the rearmost undertray for the muffler. There was no muffler on the car when I was doing all this -- It fell off months ago.

How thick was the coroplast that you used? Does that pan collect snow on top of it? Where is your exhaust exiting as it's not melting the coroplast?

You don’t have any mandatory vehicle inspections where they would test the integrity of the underbody or check the emissions?

Coroplast: it's the standard thickness -- around 4 mm, I think.

The exhaust exited roughly where you see the cutout in the rear blue panel.

We have regular emissions tests for non-hybrid vehicles, but not hybrids or EV's. We have mechanical inspections only when a vehicle is transferred to a new owner.

naked

I took all the mods off the car this week to get it inspected in preparation for selling.

It looks naked.

Mechanic says it needs:
- muffler,
- brake caliper
- front pads.

Actually it DOESN'T need pads, and the mechanic knows it but he likes the cars that he's inspecting for sale to have new brakes on them. It did need rear shoes and I did them this week. But the front pads would have lasted many 10's of thousands of kilometers more. 30 bucks so I didn't argue the point.

Brakes are done! Exhaust next, then I can sell it.

This has become the most boring thread around here!

Last on the list: edit the video.

beauty shots: 8; lowballs: 1

Spat, polished & advertised:

It probably wasn't the best weekend to put it up for sale, being a long weekend (Canada Day on Friday, lots of people doing holiday stuff).

Tally so far:

- one lowball offer via email
- one pissed off reply from someone who didn't like my "lowball offers will be ignored" line in the ad
- one person said they wanted to come see it, but they didn't follow through
