I wouldn't rush into composite wheels. In this interview, Gordon Murray says he won't do carbon fiber wheels because the failure mode is catastrophic.

..

I bought my friends gen2 for family use, stock condition, one driver 220k. It will be modified in a couple of years. Motorway, only two stops. I changed how I control my driving once efi is in closed loop mode. I've achieved 102 in a two week period with the buncemobile but this is with a stock Prius and in not very warm weather

I won't get time to do any more until May. I will be making a new rear hatch (on the work Prius) and will take photos when I can

Ok so I'm going to be nice. This won't be very often. I take it he is a manager type, big picture. His engineers should have used slow cure resin and vaccumed for longer.

Although they are rookie mistakes, if they're giving up now then funds have dried up for production and r&d. Catastrophe yes

Second-guessing Gordon Murray? Rookie mistake?

NEW MUSTANG GT500 SHATTERS CARBON FIBER WHEELS ($18,500 Option)

I would suggest basalt fiber, it bends instead of shattering.

That's a good option, those or adding other polyester fibres/cf until the flexural, shear and tensile modulus equals that of steel or aluminum. Or don't kerb your mustang?

Even in motorsports I would think a mean 10% weight loss including extra reinforcement over aluminum would be worth it.

But for me there are many steel parts and fasteners that need changing first and I'm more important

Making molds for work equipment that goes in my car. The 2mm steel is very heavy and my trestle is 40kg, with aluminum bolts I hope to get it down to 20-25

Also a die I'm making for producing lots of different length paper formers that I will use to help make impact panels. Kevlar and cf will be overlaid

Also 7075 wheel nuts but stock wheels need mag fittings if you have them

Been casting a new bumper and rear section mold to make a better job of the last ones, also an inverter bracket. I don't have a photo but it's ready to go on

Also thanks to alexshock, I used finishing wax instead of carnuba, and pva which does a great job with epoxy casting and keeping the original paintwork in tact
