Did you happen to weigh the Cruiser prior to any changes? Am wondering about overall weight and changes to FF - RR axle weights once work completed.

Plus a good bit of electronics, but that stuff doesn't scare me.

Before - Heavy
After - Still Heavy

Cruisers are tanks...6000lbs+ easy. Weight is the last thing on my mind. The truck is going from a big iron straight 6 with an AL head to a big iron 4-cylinder with an iron head, turbo, injection pump, and associated plumbing. It's not on a diet, and never will be. I'll likely be adding armor, a lift, and bigger tires down the road too.

There is another fellow who just completed the exact same swap on his rig. With combined city and 70+MPH highway cruising he's returning FE numbers in the high 20's. If I get anywhere in the 20's, I'll be stoked.

My numbers are in sig. The even heavier trucks on this board are in the high 20's for mpg. A thousand pounds here, a thousand pounds there and pretty soon you're talking engine power graphs -- bsfc charts -- and gears/tire height to make comparisons. They're useful. I'm not driving an air-conditioned go-kart nor are you and their numbers don't mean much for a truck with a turbodiesel. Yours is one that can be pointed out to others given numbers as you may choose to collect and publish for comparison purposes. Thanks for considering it.

Well, it's time for a long overdue update. Got to cover the last 4-5 weeks worth of weekend work.

Got the engine and trans bolted back together.

Then pulled the stock drivetrain. Big sucker!!!

Old motor on the right, new motor on the left... new front axle in the middle.

Swapped that rebuilt axle in while I had the motor out.

Got the new engine placed in, front is sitting on a jack so I can fab some motor mounts.

Since I need to flip the exhaust manifold to fit the turbo, it pushes the turbo up and forwards. Wasn't sure if this would interfere with the AC compressor or not. So of course it was the first thing I checked... CLOSE but fits!!!

Made my motor mounts, only have pictures of one...

Botor bolted in place...

got the radiator in...

Figured out the heater lines and radiator lines.

Thermal switch for kicking on the electric fan...

Mounted an electric fan into the factor mechanical fan shroud...

I filled the gaps around the fan with AL sheet and covered with Butyl backed waterproof foil tape, then painted black. I didn't take pictures of this exact thing, but you can see it in pictures in the next post.

I installed a washer bottle from a 91-92 cruiser, it mounts next to the fuse box and gives me the space I need for my second battery box...

Then I disected the turbo so I could re-clock the compressor housing to point the outlet downwards.

Installed the exhaust manifold and tapped it for an EGT probe so I can add a gauge at a later date. (out of budget right now)

Compressor housing with the old holes plugged and new holes drilled/tapped.

Ported the exhaust housing...

Welded a bracket to hld the PS reservoir onto the airbox.

Also installed the vacuum reservoir and fabbed some brackets for it...

Turbo outlet facing down...

New PS cooler...

My full radius SCH10 elbow won't fit, had to order a tight radius elbow.

Clearance around the accessories...

Custom PS high pressure line...

More in next post...

Then it was on to the intercooler...

Water to air baby!!!

My least favorite part of the IC setup, I had to clamp a 2.0" 45* coupler onto the 1.75" turbo outlet. I couldn't find a bending reducer that would work.

Mockup...

Built a bracket to hold the IC and pump...

Installed...

Completed bracket... It bolts in three points around the water pump. Two of the holes were unused, the third is an actual water pump bolt.

Painted and installed...

Some clamps on the upper pipe and water hoses run to heat exhanger.

Where the reservoir will be.

More hose routing...

Boost leak checked, no leaks!!!

Reservoir bracket...

And installed...

Hose from res to pump...

System overview... DONE

Exhaust in next post...

V-band welded to elbow.

Not bad for a MIG

Turbine housing installed and downpipe...

Muffler section.

Downpipe and muffler section installed...

Tailpipe section heading over frame and out.

End of exhaust.

That's where I'm at now. I'll finish the fuel system and get started on the wiring this weekend. Dependind how that goes, I might have a running truck this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is looking superb. If you fancy a holiday in Scotland, I think you will have my MGB done in a week

Whats the story with the big intercooler car in the background ?

Impressive. Nice shop. I admire the familiarity with all phases of the work.
