A politician that makes sense? I saw one of those once... he was riding a unicorn down a rainbow on his way to never-never land.

Washington State is working to pass a related bill to tax electric vehicles. Since they don't use gasoline/diesel, they get a flat fee added to their yearly registration:
senate oks road tax on electric vehicles

We cranky, old pessimists know things can change... but we don't expect the change will always be to our benefit.

"The mileage fee rate would be about 1.25 cents per mile, a level similar to the existing gas tax."

How in the F%$# do they figure that!!

In Florida the tax on a gallon of fuel is almost 53 cents (Fuel taxes in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, so a car getting 40 mpg pays 53 cents currently but at $1.25 a MILE that skyrockets to $50 DOLLARS nothing like a 10,000% tax increase...

ug......
"for big rigs" this tax per mile has been in affect in OR for many years.

"in OR" you see the truck stops all ways have that PUC diesel price thats the price payed for autos that also pay the miles tax.
non PUC pays the high pump price but no tax per mile.

they pay less per gal, but in turn pay thru the nose in cost per mile

so to drive a 80,000lb truck you need....

insurance thats WELL over 1,000 a year.
CDL drivers licence good 8 years $70.00 plus a medical card every two years thats another $60.00 to 120.00 depending on where you go.
plates on the truck $1,000 a year plus the insane cost of getting them in the first place.
and the tax per gal and the tax per mile.

and they wounder why bis are leaving OR......

I think we're seeing what Rachael Maddow calls,"whack a hippy."
Cartoon Movement - ****ing Hippies

Idaho eliminated sales tax relief for wind farm developers. The House passed a law to transfer renewable energy to nuclear power plant guarantees. The last Congress "Belled the Hybrid."

So I'm telling' some of my faux conservative co-workers that I'm really pissed at the price of gasoline as I just filled up with a single $20 and change (which was $19.50.)
