I am a little lost...why not simply turn the radio on when the truck is on (or whenever you want) by using the power on/off button on the radio instead of hard wiring it?

my radio is always turned on when the ignition is turned on. Whether the music is playing or not. he wants it to turn the power completely off from the radio when not in use.
that is what i believe he is saying, and i like the idea

If it's a brightness issue, try a small bit of electrical tape - cover the clock. BOOM! instant free dimmer.
Sorry, not trying to be an @ss, just saying, if you want to reduce electrical load to reduce drag via the alternator, cool - but the radio (depending on your setup) is pretty minimal. Still, I'm always in favor of modifying stuff. Did you run a switch, so you can turn it on while parked if the "need" ever arises? If you have a wire, you're one more wire, and a toggle away from switchy goodness.

it can only be on if the switch is on and the key is turned on and ya i am reducing the electrical load. im working on making all my lights led this makes a big difference the turn lights the break lights marker lights and running lights is 8 amps on my nissan and the head lights is another 8 amps i want to add a electric fan that is 10 amps so in the end it will only be useing 2 amps more then it is now

The dimmer switch that controls dashboard lighting usually controls the radio lighting as well. At least in my cars. I would want the radio off off as well when my car is parked, stupid design or the guy who installed it, did it.
The radio light should not come on until the headlights are turned on..

Awesome - rather than improve one thing by 100%, improve 100 things by 1%. I like that. I agree with the complete LED overhaul, that should create quite a reduction in draw. Is the attempt to reduce draw to reduce drag via the alternator, or just to keep the additional draw with the e-fans minimized?
I'm curious what sort of increase in drag (% wise) this would create on the alternator, and what the outcome of that reduction would be in real world mpg.
I'd love to see the light overhaul when it's completed, along with some numbers!

to keep the additional draw minimized with my e fan
about mpg im not sure but by removing belt to the alternator is 10% increase and if you run a cut of switch to the alt is 5 to 6% increase and my electric fan should be 1 to 1.5 better mpg
and today i was working on the led tag light im almost done with it and about to buy some led blubs for the turn lights
