To clarify, the 2018 Aston Martin DB11 is NOT a clay model, but the other image I posted just to post an image is a clay model of a "Rimac Automobili".
Let us keep the apples and oranges in their respective baskets.
Back to the DB11, I suspect that the high pressure wave in front of the car is diverting much of the air around the car. And that the car and it's cooling fans are not running, this has an impact.
One needs a rolling mat or dyno type wheel spinner for real world accuracy.

The NASCAR team, owned by Gene Haas, worked with Jacobs Engineering to develop a combination rolling road/wind tunnel that uses a steel belt to run the team's vehicles up to 180 MPH, while at the same time, gaining readings from each individual wheel. Coupled with wind tunnel technology, the system can not only get the car's wheels spinning, but can also thrust 2.85 million cubic feet of air over the vehicle every minute.

Nothing under the wheels below, but the turntable changes yaw angle.

More Details Come In On The Le Mans 2020 'Hypercar Class'

Very road car-like, right? This is the Nissan R390 in wind tunnel testing.

What got reaffirmed is that the FIA is framing this new class as prototype race cars with road car looks, but it’s serious about those looks. “Aerodynamics cannot take precedence over aesthetics,” the FIA’s press release today states, in its own dedicated line.

Oddly enough, I think the agenda will result in more aerodynamic cars, be it will less down-force possibly. I have not read the rules, only the article.

The manufacturers involved in these talks so far have been Toyota, McLaren, Aston Martin, Ferrari and Ford.

Is this future racing class responsible for giving us the McLaren Speedtail?

Top Gear also did the Speedtail:

I wonder if the AMG-1 ( AMG Project-1), Aston martin Valkyrie, and Mclaren Speedtail were all developed out of the mist, or if they have a common underlying mission of competing against the Nissan R390 in the Le Mans 2020 'Hypercar Class.
I think that Aston Martin Valkyrie has insufficient legroom for non leg amputees.

Kind feel like I hit a small jackpot today, I was looking up some VehiCross pictures and found a CCS instructor's website. Poking around I found this (and more).

From page-1:
Wind and Automotive Design – 1

Quote:
This article was originally published on the September 1986 issue of Monthly Design, a major Korean design magazine.
It was a little over 30 years, so I revised and supplemented the article partially to fit today’s context. I hope this is helpful for those who design automobiles.

6. Other
In addition to the above, there are mirrors, lamps, wipers, and antennas that are related to the aerodynamic performance of the car. The mirror is essential for driving, but it affects various aerodynamic characteristics depending on its shape and location. Mirrors mounted on both sides of the door cause a wind noise. Also, the shape of the mirror is gradually streamlined considering the resistance of the air, and the streamlined mirror can reduce the resistance by about 50% compared with the flat one. One of the disadvantages of the door mirror (as opposed to fender mirrors, which is popular in Japan especially on taxies) is that it tends to generate a vortex which makes dust adhere to the window. To prevent this, a design of passing the wind between the base of the mirror and the window is often used.

NOTE:
There are 4-pages to the article.

The Future of Automotive Aerodynamics
It’s not incredible that so many cars look so similar. It’s incredible that cars look different at all.
https://www.popularmechanics.com/car...s-car-science/
Quote:
A few weeks later, I’m at GM’s Technical Center in Warren, Michigan, standing inside GM’s new wind tunnel. Nina Tortosa, the tunnel’s supervisor, fires up the 1,100-hp fan and spins the rolling road beneath a 40-percent-*scale Chevy Silverado. These treadmill systems are standard now in wind tunnels because, in the real world, your car moves, but the road and air don’t. The wind tunnel must reverse both parameters or else the results will be skewed...................
......... Aero will always be important.”

Man, I keep hearing about the new Silverado's aero... here, air curtains in another thread, potential switch to CF for the bed... yet it still gets worse gas mileage than the outgoing model.

Historically, each maker has run a long-tail variant specifically for the conditions of the Le Mans course.
Any speed liability in the corners was more than compensated for by top speed capability on the Mulsanne Straight.
