The awd new Prius is my dream car though. Snow tires on it and it’s amazing new style of heater and a sleep bag with the seats down into the hatch would make winter car camping in the mountains amazing

I'm not willing to have a trunk anymore. A hatch is so much more useful that aero penalties are worth it.

What gets me is how many vehicles are very large, but still can't fit 3 car seats in the back.

Shopping 3-row EVs, the only options were Model Y, Model X, and recently the EV9, oh, and the Rivian... all are super expensive, so I got the least costly among them, and Tesla apparently has stopped making the Y with the 3rd row.

I'll reiterate your point by mentioning that when it snows 1" here, everyone drives their RWD pickup truck with mud tires instead of their FWD CUV, which at least has all season tires and more even weight distribution.
Once, I pulled a neighbor's RWD pickup out of a post-rain quagmire with my FWD, CRX, in reverse.
He was thankful for the tow, but I could tell that he was a bit surprised and humiliated to have been rescued with some 'Jap trash' girly-mobile.
I've gone over Raton Pass, on ice, in near-whiteout conditions with All-Season radials on the HONDA. She never let me down.
Conversely, the two, RWD, Karmann-Ghias I've owned, were also quite sure-footed on ice and snow.
If I lived 'in the North', I'd have AWD.

I once offered to pull a lifted truck with huge tires out of the ditch on Mt. Hood with the Prius. The driver said he had someone on the way to tug him out.

I've pulled plenty of folks out of ditches with the Subaru.

I put a rental box van full of furniture in a ditch once. It was pulled out by a lifted 4x4 with a winch that happened by.

I handed them twenty dollar bills one at a time, until they started handing them back.

Taylor Sheridan should write that into one of his screenplays!

The 4x4 had two disreputable-looking people who should showed unwarranted kindness; the very definition of a redneck.

Absolutely in alignment within the entire theme of the 'Yellowstone' series by Sheridan.
We'd have the 'visual' to accompany the very 'Samaritan' act, and, by none of the usual suspects.

That was one aspect of a much larger story that would rival a Nabakov or A. N. Wilson novel.

The woman who's furniture I was moving, had had her boyfriend's mother open her forehead with a frying pan.

In a screenplay, the frying pan would follow two black eyes, as she'd already have been 'told' twice!
I've lived a charmed life.
