what car and what kind of rim are you using? i'm in the middle of researching this too, and will throw you an option list of what i've found based on your oem tire diameter and wheel width.

ok, thats the same size that works well on a zx2, so here's what I found:

tirerack.com
bridgestone D381's
kumho eco-solus kr22's
cooper gfe (local tire store)

i'm leaning toward the kumho's myself because they are priced a good 20 bux a tire less than the others, and have good reviews from people who have changed out other oem LRR tires (goodyear) for them.

Also, if you want to add a little height to the tire, you can easily run a 185/70-14, and this would drop your engine rpms at any given speed by 3%. This also means that when your speedo reads 60mph, you're doing almost 63mph. KR22's come in this size too.

This size change also changes the accuracy of the odometer reading, no?

i really dont care about the speedo anyway. I stay in the middle lanes and just keep up with traffic. I was thinking of a taller tire to get a better final dive anyway. but i was thinking of going with a 15 inch rims with the same 185/65. this way I am still increasing the over all size but not having 2 miles of side wall.

sticking with a 14" rim would be more eco friendly.

yep - the odometer would be off by the same amount. There are fixes for that in the way of different speedo pinion gears (cable driven speedomter) and recalibrators (electronic speedometer).

Zonker, I run RE92's 165-65x14 on Miata BBS rims. They are really nice for good mpg's.

This weekend I swapped back to the summer tires on the Prius (Bridgestone Ecopia EP100 tires) and wow the difference... In my short commute (45 mph top speed), I saw a ~10% gain in FE over my LRR winter tires (Pirelli Winter 190 Snowcontrol Serie II). Looking forward to seeing more of that.

thanks - i assume u meant 185/65-14?

the tires I'm looking to buy are for the mustang, and the oem diameter is 25.5", so it makes things a little harder to make a LRR match compared to the 'ol ZX2.

OEM is 195/75-14, so I'm weighing my options, 195/70-14 on OEM rims, or 165/80-15 VW Beetle tires on some 15x4 lightweight alloys or oem aluminum spare rims.

I haven't ecomodded the SR's yet - I run 205/55-15 Yokohama S-Drives on oe S/R rims on one, and the screaming yellow zonker runs 225/50-15 BFG Drag Radials on the front, with 205/40-17 Falken Ziex512's on the rear, placed on Rota Subzero Rims. Not exactly the ECO based tire selection LOL.
