So do you let the burning ship sink in the protected habitat, or look for a port thst will accept it? One burning EV in the worst possible location.

We should start eating the birds if we want to "protect" them.
1 person is dead. I say let it go down where the guy gave up his life.

In that case, they felt compelled to do a root cause analysis. I'd be curious too.
If the navy isn't using CF, there's your clue.

In upstate NY 53% of my energy comes from natural gas and 29% from nuclear. To replace all my gas appliances and vehicles would cost about $130,000 or $10,000 per year for the next 13 years. Our family income is $43,000 per year and will drop by $10,000 when my wife retires in two years. I am a big fan of continuous improvement while trained in engineering economics. When the temperature drops to zero, air heat pumps and batteries do not function well. Wrong assumptions produce serious losses.
Arrogant micromanagers are on the fast track for promotion to former executive. See the SAE publications for the latest information.

I could have purchased a heat pump that works past the -14f that my current system covers. I believe they go to -29f but cost double what I paid. At -14 the city of Reno has really Interesting failures in infrastructure because it doesn't normally get that cold.
Obviously not acceptable in Minot NODAK but there are other options not available in Reno

Yes the heat pump may "function" at -14 or -29 but there's no way it's keeping up the heat load to keep the house warm.
Last time it was -14 here I was burning coal like a Chinese solar panel factory.

Via Hacker News:
FORGET SOLAR PANELS. HERE COME RAIN PANELS
CHRISTOPHER PLAIN·JULY 25, 2023
Quote:
In a potentially game-changing breakthrough in energy harvesting, researchers have found a way to capture, store and utilize the electrical power generated by falling raindrops, which may lead to the development of rooftop, power-generating rain panels.
Previous attempts to generate power from failing rain have run into specific technical hurdles that often seemed impossible to surpass, but the researchers behind this new method say they have found a solution that may finally make such rain panels as popular, if not more so, than solar panels.
...
Ultimately, the team says they zeroed in on what they think is the most optimal design to make rain panels a practical alternative or supplement to solar panels. Specifically, making the individual cells work independently and finding the right surface thickness seemed to reduce the coupling capacitance enough to make power collection from rain panels viable.
“The peak power output of the bridge array generators is nearly 5 times higher than that of the conventional large-area raindrop energy with the same size, reaching 200 watts per square meter,” Li explained, “which fully shows its advantages in large-area raindrop energy harvesting.”
