'Tesla Solar/Powerwalls-to-grid in Texas'

Yesterday on ABC NEWS, they mentioned that Texas' ERCOT, which oversees all things related to the state's power transmission, that they will begin purchasing solar -produced electricity ,stored in Tesla Powerwall batteries, from Dallas and Houston.
The 'owners' have excess capacity, and will wheel their surplus onto the grid, purchased by providers.
Their talking 'Gigawatts' in capacity.
First I've heard of such a thing.

I hope both the participants and utility find value in this.

Everyone interviewed had a smile on their face, so I presume that its a win-win for all parties.
And evidently, with time-of-use, off-peak sales to EV owners now, profits to the utilities are so high that, the public utilities commissions are requiring the providers lower prices per kW/h, and without pushback.

I don't see how profits are so high. Most utilities have the perverse incentive to make electricity as expensive as possible, because their profits are capped as a percentage of cost.

In other words, utilities wouldn't want peak demand to be covered by V2G because that electricity would be so cheap.

Anecdotally, my natural gas provider is jumping all over "renewable" gas... because it's more expensive. They have people calling me to discuss renewable gas, and my only question is how that will lower my bill, and I get silence.

A utility should only be thinking about how to safely and reliably provide the cheapest cost to their customers. If they aren't working on one of those 3 aspects, they are off the rails.

Little known fact: No major movie in the last couple eras has turned a profit. Creative Book keeping makes sure of that. Ditto for anything else you need to remain profitless.

Yep, the 4-units in Enid never turned a profit. Depreciate the structures, roof repair, management fees, other maintenance... zero profit. The account expenses were paid from accumulated cash though.

That was the case historically. Today it's the pandering to diversity, equity and inclusion.

I had thought they had always done that for the party in power. Could be mistaken about equity.
