I wonder how many times since Dec25th 1776 the Delaware River near Trenton has been clogged with ice on Christmas Day.

The thermometer on my front porch is showing 12 degrees, 1 degree below the all time previous record for this day in February set in 1896, of 13 degrees. The prediction is for the temp to drop to 5 degrees here, 8 degrees lower than the previous all time record of 13 back to the beginning of recorded readings here.
regards

Yeah, and here on the other side of the continent, it was 69F today, a couple of degrees off the all-time record high for the date, and WAY above the average of 53F. So quit whining, and either show some appreciation for your real winter weather, or send it over this way.
Oh, and in case you still haven't figured out that the northeastern US isn't the center of the universe, here's what high temps are forecast to be across the country tomorrow:

5 degrees as predicted, 8 below the previous record from 1894.
Grow up James, try to have a reasonable discussion without the dripping ego drool.
Maybe you should also try learning some thing about the northeast, since it is not where I live. I guess that's why you aren't brave enoguh to post your location.

Humm... You say you live in Williamsburg, Virginia. I look at a map, and that looks like northeast to me. Maybe on the southern edge of the northeast, but still northeast.
And for the record, I've said where I live (northwestern part of Nevada) many times. Just a) don't see the need to have it on every post; and b) can't figure out how to describe it succinctly, as I don't live in a distinct town, and refuse to think of myself as belonging with the nearest city of any size. Lat/long, maybe?
As for the reasonable discussion, thought that's what I was doing by pointing out that while you folks are lucky enough to have some decent winter weather, much of the country is in fact suffering from heat & drought. So why not appreciate your good fortune, and go skiing or something?

I recall reading an article stating that that is what CA was most of the time - it just so happened the exploration of the wild west came along in a period of abnormal rainfall making the arid CA climate bearable. Or sort of.

California has wanted to steal Columbia River water for years (see the movie Chinatown).
With a little imagination they could put huge kites on floe ice and sail it south into a bay and let it melt there. Icebergs would be hard to move, and run aground.

Don't believe everything you read :-) And don't make the mistake of thinking California has just one climate. It's got rain forests in one corner, Death Valley in another. Semi-tropical beaches* in another, with a few glaciers scattered around for variety.
*Though I think the coldest I've ever been was walking guard duty at 3 AM near one of those Southern California beaches.
