front
featuring the replacement bumper reinforcement bar - and the damaged rad, but as you can see from the header tank - all is well
Air filter canister, the intake is above the wheel arch liner
Half-assed Harlequin - not visible are the bug hits and greasy hand prints

Well it looks good Rob, Looking at the pic from the front it seems you could move the air intake to the plastic panel to the left of the Rad (Looking AT the car)?
Is that oldschool G11 coolant?awesome

would it be worth seeing if any of the petrol models have a different routing?
I'm also mildly alarmed by how much it looks like a nova with the grill and bumper off..

Does look a bit Nova-esque. Much smaller, and the headlights look huge.
I wish you hadn't mentioned the Nova actually, I'm now wondering how much MPG you could get from one of the old diesel ones...

IIRC the 1.5td's were quite nippy 50-70, almost on a par with the GTE. that 1.5 lump is the base for the 1.7cdti thats still being used today although it now has a 16v head, , commonrail injection etc etc
Just got another small increase on my MPG and the second 60MPGuk tank. considering the time spent on static running to check the rad after the crash I'm VERY please wil only a 0.2% increase!

I had a Nova 1.5 TD Merit for a year - my first ever TD. Cracking economy - 55 and I drove it like a rocket everywhere. The downside was 145 section tyres - honest. It would spin its wheels in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Sometimes 4th if it was very wet.

I remember my friends being quite neutral in the handling dept, even with the skinnys you could hustle along B roads P.D.Q if you weren't afraid to set it into a 4wheel drift in the longer corners.
Going to make the first attempts at a grille block the weekend, along with primer-ing the new panels.... might get black primer and not bother painting over it, go for the beater/rat/hood ride look!

Prefered hothatch for 4wdrifting was the 205gti- liftoff oversteer FTW
Apologies for the Nova comment-although it seems to have dredged up some nostalgia
Have you got a route for the air intake? going to use the plastic bottles to make the grill block?
As for the painting- use paint, not primer so it doesnt absorb water and rust
