Right MOD DONE!!!

no pics as my SD reader has died

but the top grille is completely blocked bar the lowest slat ( as I did with the last polo) the lower grille looked a lot more blocked than the petrol versionSO I only had to block the centre.

Also - I was going to put a foam strip along the leading edge of the bonnet to stop the air getting in there..... no need those clever Germans had already thought of that and put a rubbber mating seal across there.

next idea is something a friend suggested - Duck tail taping. Basically taking a strip of duct tape fold it in the centre of chord leaving the out quarters exposed. One quater goes on a side edge and the other goes on the back edge of a panel - its supposed to act a bit lke a VG and a mini Kamm extension.....

as soon as I get some grey duck tape I'll give it a go!

I don't get this car sometimes:

P&G - gain mileage
return to steady state - back to average mileage
add grille block - no improvement
grille block + faster cruising - MORE Mileage

how in the name of my left nut does that work??

We don't control all other variables for the entire run, so you don't always get to see the expected changes on a tank-to-tank basis.
It'll show up in the long run (over multiple tanks)

That lack of control is why I can't really be bothered to do A-B-A testing.

Well this tank is a right-off , got lost last night in the rolling hills of north shropshire trying to find my boss' wedding. needless to say that me, chug and some flowing roads is a receipe for a very broad grin!

I think in the spirit of unheard's Lupo 3L it time that chug goes on a bit of a diet. Nothing toooo drastic - just ditiching some of the tools in the boot, spare wheel, oem first aid kit, jack etc and clear out the door pockets!

P&G FTW

As regarding roling hills, and twisty roads, I think the current tank in the Saab will be circa 39mpg.. thats mainly done over 2 days in the pissing rain down A/B roads in the west highlands.. good times!

sounds like the grill mod may be a plan for myself- the car has plenty of gaping holes at the front.

Whats this with the Gaff tape? I cant quite envisage it...

Well i tried vortex tape on ahead of the rear edge radii on the tailgate of the last polo, and now I want to try peeling the laminar flow off beyond the existing the panel length (kammback theory) with a flexible edge (the tape) thus giving a more gradual separation. gonna try the theory on my wing mirror first where I can keep an eye on it

p.s. you noticed clio wing mirrors are terrible in the wet? mine were, spray kept flicking round the edge and up on the mirror face! result HUGE lack of reward vision!

Sounds an interesting propsition! So essentially the tape can bend and provide a better angle?

As for the Clio mirrors- way she drives, there's no need to see where you've been
