yeah it would be easy to crack 60mpg if i sat at 57mph on the motorway, but tbh I don't like hindering the lorries! and it would add about 30mins to me working day. time I could have with my kids I much prefer the real world measure of driving at 70-ish
+ that 60MPGuk also includes a sh*t load of 2 minute trips to pick the kids or runs for the weekly shop where it never gets off 'choke'. Trying to get the combined up to 60 will be a feat in itself!

My whole theory behind this is to have a car that anyone can drive normally and still save money, with out the need for more extreme aero/driving

My average has taken a hit for these reasons - lots of local trips, also mainly kid related. I should just get a meter and a sign and start charging him...

I’VE DONE IT!!!!!

Just…..

VW states that @ a constant 120km/h this car will achieve 47.08 MPGuk. Well a cruising at 120KM/h and with a bucket load of urban and small runs my little polo – still in un-modded state (bar tyre pressures) – has just done....

60.06865MPG!!!

Breaking my target 60MPGuk barrier and the 50MPGus Barrier if I have my sums right.

No Coasting P+G
No MPGuino or fancy data visualisation
No fancy hi-tech engine
No Aero mods

Just a plucky little german hatchback with an oversized diesel lump up front!

Well done, struggling to get mine to be consistently over 55 at the moment. But, now the schools up here are on holiday I added 10 MPG to my average to work this morning...

Congrats on the 60mpg mark. Those lowly-tuned turbodiesels in the small VAG cars really are one of the best out-of-the-box economical cars you can get, with the added benefit that the engines are ridiculously under-stressed so go on forever.

Just a thought Rob, isn't the title of this thread misleading ?

After all you haven't made any changes to the car
