That sounds like something that would only happen once.

Well +@&€!! You jinxed me!
That's today's snow. Not quite enough for a test drive, though.
But I did finish it up: patched the squirrel chew holes on the tank top & cap with a bit of bondo, (visible in the above pic).
She's ready to go for next winter, I guess!

Bondo is ethanol resistant? Probably only need to half fill the tank anyway. If you haven't drained it you should add some Stabil.

Not sure about ethanol... but I won't be using ethanol fuel in this tank.
As you point out, the patches I made won't ever be submerged in gas, but they will likely get splashed.
I figure "resistant" is good enough for that use. It's not a critical leak repair.
If it peels off, I will report back.
Tank & carb float bowl have been drained until next winter.

last thing...
The final thing left to do is have a look at the drive belts. They're probably as old & crusty as the tires.
But instead, I will probably just go with the "ignorance is bliss" approach until one breaks in the middle of a blizzard.

We used bondo and screen mesh for fuel tank repain back in the day when I was driving gas vehicles.
At least get replacement belts. Belt will self destruct in the middle of the biggest event.
