Don't overfill - that makes more heat and cuts efficiency due to spin loss.
As for the add-on pump, it's feasible but make sure that it isn't a restriction to "normal" flow.

Been putting my car in N coasting to stops for some time now. Mostly in my Escort but even been trying it in my wifes car the Alero. She gives me that 'what are you doing?' look. Way I figure it, an Escort tranny is cheap. Like @$250-$350 used from the recyclers. If it breaks, I'll do the repairs myself. Or perhaps become motivated enough to install a 5 speed! Tried EOC a few times instead of just N coast engine on but forgot to put in in neutral once. Won't do that again! Isn't the biggest concern a spike in pressure going from Drive into Neutral?

something to think about if you have a 904 or 727 torqueflite tranny in your chrysler/dodge/plymouth...
previous to 1966, the torqueflite trans had two pumps, a front and a rear oil pump integrated into the rear of the trans. It was done for the specific purpose of preventing failures while being towed.
if you can find a good pre-66 torqueflite to rebuild, you could rebuild one of those and replace your later model 904 or 727 trans, and you'd be free to engine off coast to your hearts content.

I've never heard of a 100% electric TC, as opposed to the regular hydraulic, but you could try using electronic hubs like the 4x4s do. They disengage the axle shafts from the wheel in an effort to boost fuel economy. I think Ford used it for some time on the Explorer. Worth looking into, I suppose, but I don't know it's limitations as to when it can and can't be engaged.

A lot of power is lost by letting the torque converter slip while climbing hills. Maybe the manufacturers are trying to extend the life of the clutch by using it only occasionally and only for light loads.

Hi guys, if an external pump was adapted as meant for the RV towing config, would it be capable of bump starting an ATX if the gear was is "D"?

Hmm, good question, i dont know much about how it works, but my answer would be no. It would be like bump starting at 55mph in first gear, then pushing the clutch and shifting into a higher gear. I can imagine you would sheer teeth on gears or something.

The 700R4 series appears to continue to circulate fluid while rolling in neutral.
When I EOC mine the temperature drops real fast and I have rolled it for over 20 miles several times.
