2003 Camry 2.4L mileage: Florida to Ottawa ... 33 mpg US
I just did 1600 miles / 2570 km in a 2003 Camry 2.4L (not in the car that I started this thread about, but identical specs).
This was with no mods, even the tires were at placard pressure.
33 MPG US = 7.1 L/100 km = 40 mpg (Imp)
Highway rating for this car is 29 mpg.
Route & conditions:
Almost entirely interstate travel. Includes a detour to St Augustine, plus around 15 miles of stop & go north of Richmond, VA.
Roads were mostly dry. Blustery headwinds & crosswinds for probably half the trip. Temps ranged all over the map from ~20C / 68F in the south to around freezing in the mornings in the northern portion.
Driving style:
Mostly cruise control, generally a couple to 5 over the posted limit (which ranged from 55 - 70 mph). Lots of looking well ahead to adjust speed early for speed changes (to minimize braking, especially in congestion). The average speed per the ScanGauge over 2 of the tanks (which includes time spent stopped when the ignition is on) was ~60 mph (97 km/h).
The ScanGauge read about 10% optimistic against MPG calculations at the pump. So, assuming this car is the same as the 2002 used in post #1, the numbers in that graph can be revised down by the same amount.

Oh, and I should also mention...
33 MPG is the worst mileage I've gotten in years! Horrifying!

I totally believe you got 7-7.5 L/100km (29-33mpg) for 100-120kph (65-75mph) highway driving. I have been getting slightly higher consumption 7.8-8.1 L/100km (29-30 MPG) with my 2.5L Subaru at those speed ranges with similar conditions. EPA on my car is 11.7/100km (20 MPG) city and 9.0l/100km (26 MPG) highway.
I noticed tires, temperature and wind are very crucial. I get about a ~0.5L/100km (~2 MPG) gain with every 10-15c increase in ambient temperature. On a non windy day mileage improves by 0.2-0.7 L/100km (0.5-1mpg) vs windy one depending on speed and direction. My roadtrip Higher profile skinny tires with low resistance rubbers improve my mileage too by another ~0.3 L/100km (1 mpg). I haven't noticed much difference with tire pressure changes though.

Nice stuff! I ponder the Echo's replacent and this car was on my list. I can find them with 5-speeds and if those are anything near what this car got with an auto, I'm basically sold. This makes it leapfrog a Corolla, more or less.

You really should!
Just knocked out another one tank trip with Cleveland's finest winter blend e10 and doing 5-10mph over with cruise control. Two people, 150ish lbs of stuff, but only one dog this time. But alas, the math only showed 31.xxmpg. Apparently it fit 18 gallons of gas in, but the low fuel light never came on (18.5 gal tank). The pump however did have it's tamper proof seal tampered with. I noticed only after I paid and spent the next hour getting a new credit card, filing a report with the gas station's company, and with the local police.
I'd have high hopes for one equipped with either the newer 5 speed auto or the manual. This isn't my car so there is no ecomodding.

Thanks! I knew I was in your general neighbourhood as I went through (but couldn't remember exactly where).
But I'll take a rain check! This one was a spur of the moment trip without a lot of free time once I headed north.

2002 to 2005 upgrade
So my parents changed cars... sort of!
The well-used 2002 with 340,000 km (211k miles) which was the subject of this thread was traded for an immaculate 2005 with 135k km (84k miles).
In the fuel economy department, the "new" car surprisingly lost the dashboard fuel economy gauge. But on the plus side, it gained a 5th gear in the automatic transmission which adds 2 MPG to its highway rating.
Ratings went from:
2002
EPA city: 21 mpg (US)
EPA highway: 29 mpg (US)
EPA combined: 24 mpg (US)
2005
EPA city: 21 mpg (US)
EPA highway: 31 mpg (US)
EPA combined: 25 mpg (US)
I tried to convince my dad to consider a 2007+ Camry hybrid, but he was adamant about staying with the same generation he was used to. Darn octogenarians stuck in their ways!
The "new" one is even exactly the same colour.
