If you could get that Iveco for cheap, it would still worth. But trying to keep it perfectly stock wouldn't. If you're gonna mod the hell out of it in order to use as an RV, it sounds reasonable to start with some cheap platform...

Well, it's funny how things work out.
I had been looking for either a more modern gasser or a diesel.
Ended up getting a gmc 3500 10 foot box van (like the uhauls but not from uhaul, fleet maintained tho). It has single rear wheels which is nice too.
for cheap with a lot of stuff replaced. It's not diesel, but I had to get it cuz it was so cheap.
Now I just have to figure out aero mods. Probably won't be able to do too many before the tour, but a few for sure. Maybe a coroplast ramp from the windshield to the box,
And a front air dam below the bumper....

Looks just like this. Hoping to do a high top mod over the cab with a sloping ceiling going towards the back then a fold up boat tail

Congratulations on your new ride.
Besides the mods you already mentioned.
Smaller mirrors and or cameras.
Side skirts
Front wheel arch gap filler
WAI
Increased tire pressure.
Smooth wheel covers
Ultra gauge. (important)

So is the ultra gauge like the scan gauge? It would work with my 97?
This has real fuel injection per cyl, no throttle body.
I'm down with getting it to train my gas foot better,
Even though I drive like a granny now anyways unless I'm in a real rush.
I'll already get better mpg with this than my 72 dodge camper,
But id love to get about 15mpg loaded.
That's a little less than double what my camper got.
The uhaul 10 footers with the 4.8vortec are quoted at getting about 14mpg,
But I have the 5.7 vortec, so getting higher mpg will be more difficult.
It drives so weird unloaded. So tight! It wants a thousand pounds of robots in the back

That's not really that bad, even for a gasser. At least with the good old small-block Chevy you have many options to try, from a different camshaft to a less restrictive exhaust. Regarding aeromods, you may actually want to enclose the sides of that over-head deflector if you're really going to make one. Anyway, you could eventually make it as a kind of roof-mounted trunk

You could look for something with an aluminum body so you can reuse the floor, footwells and cowl in the new body.
I can't wait to see the plan.

Yeah, I'm torn on what to do when it comes time for mods.
The sides are flat and look like 3/4plywood.
The easiest mod would be to follow the windshield angle up above the box,
Then taper back to the terminal end with a rounded roof.
I'd prefer to leave the sides, but we'll see.
As far as the frontal area of the van, would it be better to get rid of all of the body and start fresh? Or better to adjust the box behind the windshield, leaving the cab original but modded with air dams etc...
